Nice Myke - I very rarely get to see that much wildlife on one walk. I do think you've got your stealth on.
Certainly great, for us, that you carry a camera

Thank you Rayman, but I've just been lucky so far.
It do help to get there early though as the river banks are crammed full of people during the heat of the day.

Becky and Connie are taking Hanna to Camp Quality today where she will be for the next week. It’s amazing what all the kids do, all for free. The Frankfort Car Club takes them for a cruise, they go on a motorcycle ride, zip lining, archery, swimming, dances, they do all kinds of fun things. It’s 4 girls to a cabin, with one older girl for each 2 girls. Hanna and Jenna have always been together with the same Companion. This girl is amazing, she also takes them out to do something several times during the year, at her own expense. All food is donated by local businesses.

That sounds great, John! I have also enjoyed the pics you have shared of Hanna having a good time with her friends. It's great to see her smiling and being able to "be a kid".

Special run knife got in today and this thing is sweet. Great design with a good blade shape for the woods and a big enough handle to fill the hand/be comfortable in any grip. Can't wait to put it to work.

Is that Kephart 1/8 thick? Very nice size for a good worker. Let us know how it works.

Ty - Nice edge! By hand or with a guided sharpening system?

I wish I could do that by hand, but I use a Edge Pro Apex. I finally pulled the trigger on one thise year and it was worth every penny. That edge is at 1000 grit I usually use a toothier edge for My woods knives though.

Sis and I went back up on the Mountain Loop Scenic Byway Tuesday and had a great time exploring.

We came at it from the Southside this time just to get a different perspective and found a few potential camping spots, but they're all too close to the road for my liking.
Got some great pics though.
When we were up there a couple of weeks ago we saw a young bear on the road and apparently him and his buddies have been raising hell.
Damn hooligans.

Barlow Pass is on the loop.

Must be a lot of iron in the ground on this stretch of the river.
This is the same river that flows through the park I've been going to just higher up in the hills.

The fun part of the trip happened at this big ass stump that grew as a tree around the big rock seen in the split at the bottom left.(For perspective I'm about as tall as the rock.)
We stopped for pics and Sis wanted a pic of me next to the stump so I climbed up so she could get a pic and after the pic I took a step down and somehow tripped and landed on my chest. Luckily my face didn't hit but I have a couple of nice scrapes right below my left knee, a big scrape on my upper chest and the ring and pinky finger on right hand got jammed and are swollen. My chest is sore as hell, my knee is sore as hell and my fingers are sore as hell but nothing is broken so I think I'll live.
It's a good thing the forest floor is soft or I might have been really hurt.;)
Too bad about the rocks and chunk of wood I landed on though.

So I washed the blood off, administered first aid to the scrapes, collected my wits and onward we went.
A ways down the road we come across a side road going up so we drove up it despite the signs saying there is damage to the road ahead.
The damage was a minor washout that wasn't a problem for my truck, but would be for lowriding cars.
This road followed the north fork of the river we were on and climbed steadily.
After a bit of driving Sis wanted to turn around, but I wanted to see what was around the next bend, and the next one and the next.....

it's a good thing I persisted because a few minutes later we found a great spot to camp right on the river with a nice sandy beach.

Some cool little microcosms growing on some of the rocks.

All in all it was a great trip (no pun intended) and I look forward to camping at the new spot in the near future.:)

Looks beautiful as always Mykel. Thank you most kindly for NOT SHOWING us any
bear- er o_O -bare ass in the river - would have spoiled my coffee break :D

Ray

Mykel beautiful as always, your skill with the camera makes it like you are there. Was there any smoke in the air from the wild fires? Over here on the east side it's brown skies with a temp that's supposed to get to 104 today so the water looks very refreshing.

Not to worry Ray, I had to quit showing my bare butt in public due to all the threats I received from jealous husbands.
Yeah.;)

Looks like a great spot to camp.
Yeah man, can't wait.

Thanks Woody, there is plenty of smoke in the air over here too with temps today in the mid 90s.
Supposed to get rain Saturday with low 70s for temps. Can't wait.
It's been nothing but hot since I moved up to Arlington.:(

So this next summer I think Ill have the chance to travel and spend some time in a few different states. Just me and my dog! Right now I'm looking at some travel trailers in the 20+ foot range.

Which brings me to my question! What do you think would be a good option for a strong, portable dog fence? I was thinking chicken wire with some metal pipes that I could put into the ground wherever I happen to be parked for a longer period of time. Maybe buy a pre-made gate I could integrate into the chicken wire. I know they make pre-made dog corral type things, but they really dont seem big enough. Any ideas would be welcome!

what size dog?
if it's big enough but not too big, you could buy a couple pieces of hog panel or cattle panel, cut them to size and make folding fence sections out of them.
