The "Whatever" Thread

Heading out the door this morning I grabbed my S&W 38 like I usually do when the weather is nice. I started thinking about the craziness throughout our country as I sat in the driveway then went back inside and swapped the S&W for a Glock and extra mag. Am I being paranoid?
I always carry a full size precision weapon with alot of extra ammo. To get me to my fal and plate carrier with alot of ammo. Which is never very far from me. I've seen first hand the evil man can do.

Anyone try a JK compact tool and can compare with a different model? Seems it could be a nice in between of the rule 9 or and element knives. I'm actually really interestes in feeling the handle in person if anyone is willing to let me borrow one.

There have been quite a few made, but I don’t remember who has them. I think jds1 and macbeth33 have them, but not sure.

Currently working on something interesting, 1/16” thick, 440C paring/small game knife, with a full flat grind. So far, it’s going well.
How does working with 440C compare to O1? I know many people have negative opinions of 440C but with proper heat treat it makes a good knife.

I’d compare it to 154cm, a bit more difficult than O1. The thin steel is very difficult to work with, need to go very slow.

Is this the Compact Tool?

Going to Becky’s house this afternoon to celebrate Fathers Day, because Hayley and Hanna will be with their Dad next weekend. All my kids and grandchildren will be there. Connie made baked beans (some of you have had them, they are good!), Angie made potato salad, Aly is bringing chips and dip, and Becky is supplying the burgers. Nice and sunny, 70 degree day.

It's gorgeous outside today. I've been working on a bit of a bushcrafty tarp teepee the past several weeks and I've tied it down about 5 different ways now. Watched a youtube video where a guy guy-out an A or V-shaped tarp setup using a guy-line and uses a toggle in the trucker's hitch to hold tension. I really like it and it makes tearing it all down really easy since it's strung together via pressure. I don't do a lot of shelter building with my woodcraft shenanigans so this was a fun one, using it as a test for puukko and bushcamp and more recently the pocket parang (I named it) I bought from creaky bones to make a bunch of tent stakes for the guy-line setup.

Today, I set up the new tent outside finally and am in the process of putting all of our sleep gear inside to see how snug it is with the wife and baby. It says 4-man but those men must be tiny and not like sleeping pads. Really like the setup though.

in my experience, tent sizing is based on european mountain climbers -- there's actually a picture on the box of how they expect 4 people in mummy bags to fit in that tent. 3 people alternating head and feet and 1 person "crossing the T".

IME - a 9x9 is perfect for 1 person for 2 weeks or 2 people for a long weekend.
