Well, here is my first attempt at whittling something other than just a smaller stick. I started off just trying to make something round-ish:

After I got it mostly rounded off (not really a circle, but at least a rounded cube), I was trying to think where I could take it from there. I figured a sucker/lollipop would be easy enough but provide more variety than just doing a round-ish sphere, so that's what I went for. Turned out ok for a first attempt, I think.

I actually started working on this Thursday evening and finished Friday around lunch, but haven't had a chance to share until now.

Barrett, I think it turned out great! Making a square stick into a round one is a great practice exercise. You upped the degree of difficulty a notch and ended up with something really fun. :thumbup:

And, I'm very happy to see that you got the most important vote of approval. How cool to have your newborn daughter holding on to something you whittled!

And the photo of the "lollipop" in your newborn's hand has got to be an entry in any Porch Pick of the Pics contest for 2016!

(In my almost unlimited ignorance of human behavior, I had predicted that, with little Eleanor's birth, we wouldn't see your first whittling project for a while! Good to see that my predictions are consistently inaccurate! )

GT, I finished this up around lunch on Friday, and not long after that it was time to head to the hospital. So it was finished before all the excitement happened, I just didn't have a chance to take photos and share.
