The work sharp Ken onion edition

This makes perfect sense and is what I intended to do. Also thinking about it the belt pulling toward the edge of the knife seems to me would shorten the life of the belt “IE” shaving off the grit

I love my Work Sharp Ken Onion with the blade grinding attachment, been using it for a couple of years now. I have two other Work Sharps that i love to use also. The Guided field sharpener is always with me when i go off. Then i have my Guided Sharpening System with the upgrade kit that I like to use on certain knives.

I also have the kows with the bga... But if I had to do it over I would likely get a 1x42 kalamazoo or a viel belt sander. My bga doesn't track super well and not impressed with the platen. But it works for friends and family's knives since it's so compact it's nice and portable. :)

I saw the deal online today and bought the WSKO + BGA w/belt kit. Hard to beat the price. I hope this isn’t a sign they are blowing out the current model in preparation for an upcoming version later

I had been thinking about a cheap 1x30, but the variable speed and portability seem hard to beat. Who’s got recommendations on 3rd party belts?

Josh, and anyone who's interested, Gary Graley had an excellent suggestion a while back for making the BGA platen more useful: https://www.bladeforums.com/threads...ife-grinder-attachment.1445402/#post-16644875 I use my small leather insert frequently for various jobs and it works well.

I set up the WSKO with the blade grinding attachment tonight. The belts kept slipping off! I will call customer support but any tips for keeping the belts on? Do I need things really tight or adjust the tracking?

My initial review of the work sharp with the blade grinding attachment is positive. After having it for only a week I am about to run out of things to sharpen and I must say the belts are holding up great. There is a short learning curve too getting used to using this I will add that I watched many YouTube videos which I think made it a lot easier. A friend of mine came over to use it on several of his knives and hatchets and had no problem achieving sharpness after watching me for just a few minutes. A total of approximately 20 blades so far on the same set of belts I will note that none of these knives very dull so no major reprofiling was done which may lead to why the belt have lasted to this point.

I watched a bunch of youtube videos to see others change belts. it seemed like the best "trick" is to turn on the grinder and then adjust the tracking to keep the belt from slipping off. I spent some more time with the belts this morning and that seemed to work well. No knives on it yet, but will try some tonight.

How do you keep your grinding dust contained? I picked up @bgentry ’s tip of putting the WSKO in a sheet pan but I’m still getting dust everywhere.

Has anyone tried making a “back wall” of cardboard to keep the dust from spreading too far?

If it’s going to be a lot of grinding like reprofiling I do that outside. sharpening with a less aggressive belts I have not noticed a big issue.
