"The World Of Art Knives" Vol.II !!

.......actually your book dragged me into the world of art knives.

Thank you Richard;)

:) RA, feedback I get from all over the world indicates that you
evidently are in good company of "quite a few" who got dragged
into the world of custom knives through my passion to create
these books.... Makes it really worth the intensive effort... :) :)

Thank you!

All the best,

U P D A T E :
The books will hopefully be with Missy Beyer early next week !!

In the mean time, here from the section "The Feminine Touch", is a
beautiful collaboration between Heather Harvey (SA) & Audra Draper (USA).
The project was conceived when they met at the BLADE Show!

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

The 1st limited printing of 1000 copies has mostly been pre-ordered... But there will be
220 copies going to the "ARSENAL" Show in Moscow, this April....

Here are 2 pages from a very large private collection of knives made by Jim Schmidt...

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

I have moved to a new apartment and set up my new study.
This is where I shall be also planning and creating my new "Knife Books"....

Can anyone recognise the new super gadget where Vol. III of
"The World of Art Knives" is already cooking?

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

DDD, thats a nice new work room. Modern and well equipped. Cool camera collection display.

Bruce, the glass cabinet holds all the cameras I used over the past 46 years... Top left is my first, the Pentax Spotmatic with its 1967 50mm Macro lens.... BUT can you identify my new "Super Gadget" ?? Hint: it it somewhere in the middle of the picture...

David -- if I had kept all the cameras I have used over my last 45 years as a photographer, I would have no room for my knives much less all your fine books of which one more will be added to the collection as I am in communication with Missy and hope that Brian Tighe can bring it back from Blade as I won't be attending this year. Oh, yes, and I'm sure that there are "dangerous curves" ahead when speaking of Heather and Audra -- good one DDD.

Oh yes, I see you have one of those new memory foam pillow cushions for your office chair. :)

What a great workspace, David! Don't know about your super-gadget, but I see a lot of stuff there . . . including a copy of your latest book on the top of the stack of books on the shelf beneath your camera display case . . . a nice big display screen . . . a couple of printers . . . some kind of black gizmo to the left of the monitor . . . . Again, just a cool and well-lit workspace.

hope that Brian Tighe can bring it back from Blade as I won't be attending this year.

Sorry to hear that you won't be there. That means we will all miss your wonderful photo journal . . . one of my favorite things at this forum every year. :( Hope all is well with you. You will definitely be missed.

At last somebody noticed!

Well, it is the little Black Wonder from Apple, their "flagship" Mac Pro....
On the screen is the 2-page Epilogue from my latest, just-out, 10th book on custom knives...

Using Completed Professional Pictures:

Quite often I am compelled to use the high resolution files of professional photographs that
had been finished into final pictures by various photographers from around the world.

With the permission of the photographers and using Photoshop®, I carefully extract the various
images from the original photograph files. Then I decide on the design combination for a new
one-page illustration in one of my books and patiently put it all together.

Here, on the right, are Eric Eggly's (Point7 Studios) high quality original files.
Extracting the knives and sheaths I rearranged them to my liking, and then
created a new background and the shadows for each piece.

Altogether 15 different layers for one page....

This later became a page in Julie Warenski-Erickson's book displaying
her engraving art.

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

Does anyone have contact info for Missy Beyer? I would like to get a copy of this book ordered.

Thanks

Having done this type of work myself, I know how involved it is. Quite a bit of work here. When done correctly no one will should know. LOL!

I love the direct head on shots of the Goblins. No trying to make them plausible as a layout; just show them. :)

Thanks.

Jim

Here is the opening page for a section in my new book displaying the stories,
the pictures and the knives of 27 Women Knifemakers & Collectors.
I named this section "The Feminine Touch" and used this beautiful close-up shot
taken of Dellana at work in her workshop.... (the picture was first used in
my 2011 book "The Art Knives of Van Barnett & Dellana").

I think that Missy Bayer should be shipping out copies of my new book any day now.....

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)
