Theoretically Speaking...(maybe not?) Which Becker do you choose for Zombies??

So I am just wondering why not one person said anything about THE BRUTE!!! Him and the King at your side = no worries! And of course a silenced 22lr with 1000 plus rounds in a backpack. Easy caring and RUNNING. :D

Because, the Brute sucks?

:D

10 yards or so: "King on a stick" -- A Bk-9 spear to pin them down or to a tree or somesuch...

Agreed...

... but I still say Ethan needs to make a decent hawk head we could fit into split sticks and secure with paracord for stuff just like this! :D

Yessir! you were indeed the inspiration for the "King-on-a-stick" thought. When you first posted that, I said to myself: "Now there's a truly intimidating tool for dealing with dangerous game."

Gotta keep away from the toothy end of the zombies, and by extension out of reach for their mitts, the King on a stick will make almost any cut a regular bk-9 will, but with the added mechanical advantage of leverage and safety from undead chompers. Zombie behind you? use the butt to push it back and then do a 180 to bifurcate it! Nearly surrounded? use the front edge to sweep (and slice) kneecaps, therefore rendering the undead posse horizontal, and therefore less threatening.

Or we could one up this...

Dum DUM DAAAAAHHH!!!
RBK on a stick.
not nearly as stabby, but the hook action would work like a woodsman's pal on Zed's limbs. Effing scary thought, that.

Anyone got an RBK they wanna try this with? I'd love to see a mockup or a watermelon destruction test, lol.

Does anyone actually believe this sort of thing?

I was thinking about this the other day and it seems the whole zombie thing is to generation x what the red scare/cold war was for previous generations, with just a little bit more fantasy and mythology involved.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I know that there's absolutely no chance in the fire down below of the dead rising without a court-ordered exhumation; but I just can't resist a good thought-exercise, no matter how silly the scenario. I like to see how my brain solves problems, and see if it makes optimal choices, or comes up with a rube-goldberg that has 1,000 steps to cook an egg, lol. This kind of thing is fun for me.

Just take the word "Zombie" out of it, and I'm sure a small few of the solutions presented here will lend themselves to real-life tasks. For instance, the spear might be a good tool to help hunt boar, or other dangerous game in a pinch. <joke> Or help you stave off a bum who's high on "bath salts" :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D</joke> Anyways, I'm just trying to catch a few laughs.

Of course I do, they just had patient zero down in Florida, I'm sure he is up and walking (well shambling) around some CDC lab just waiting to break out and infect some poor technician around dec 21

I see the whole "zombie" thing as a metaphor for looters and/or roving predatory gangs after a cataclysmic event.

Hell no, I don't think zombies will rise up. But, I do believe in being prepared.

Whatever the reason behind it, folks are taking it upon themselves to think of a "worse case scenario", and try to mentally, physically and emotionally prepare for it. That's a good thing. Means there will be less victims and more heroes. Guys and gals thinking ahead, getting some good gear, and learning how to use it, nothing wrong with that, no matter what the charging factor is.

And, I think zombies are fun as hell. Its a good backdrop to a good survival base, learn to deal with zombies, and pretty much you can be prepared for most bad situations.

No one ever talks about the wildlife zombies... what the hell do you do when you have a charging zombie rhino around, or a zombie cheetah? I don't think the little bear bell is going to help against that zombie grizzly...

I blame Gen-Y. I'm the tail end of Gen-X and got plenty of the cold war misery, complete with nuclear nightmares, thank you very much.

Hah. I blame Gen-Y for the walking dead. :-)

Rabies is a zombie virus.

But to actually answer your question: not really.

We're up to, I think, four cannibal incidents in the last week or two alone. Somehow I think the Zombie Squad guys aren't too far off the mark. When your face is getting eating, who cares if it's an undead shambler or an insane cannibal biting your nose off? Either way, you're not gonna be pretty enough for the ladies after. :D

Looks like I better get out the toxic-green duracoat for my Beckers. Things are heating up out there. ;)

I think most of the Zombie Apocalypse craze is just a tongue-in-cheek way of saying if you're prepared for a Zombie invasion you're prepared for most anything that could go down.

A good example is the Zombie preparedness info from the CDC:

http://www.cdc.gov/phpr/zombies.htm

If you follow their preparedness instructions you're in good shape for escaping from nearly any short-term emergency situation.
