there is a green flipping frenzy going on

Keeping mine, only reason I might flip is to buy a different Spyderco if funds aren't available when it drops.

I too was in much better financially when I ordered it but in the last month and a half, I have accumulated some uncovered and unexpected bills that put a hurt on me, close to $3000. I have been selling everything collected on another forum to raise funds including all my alox sak's, some other saks like the swisschamps, all my LM juice's as well as other LM and Victorinox MT's, etc. I still have some to sell but about 80% of my collection has been sold and still need more to sell so I will receive my two tomorrow and will have to sell them at this point but I will try to keep one for now. If I can get others to buy the other items I need to go then I might be able to keep one of them. Unfortunately, I never had $3000 worth of stuff in my small and modest collection so I am going from a small collector to a user with just a couple if I can get the other items sold. I have a couple more new Swisschamps with the sos kits, a couple of Spydies and that is about it.

:D. Did I say something wrong? I don't want a fiasco to start or anything. I should clarify, that I don't practice it.

Me too. We just have a difference of opinion regarding people who aren't really knife users who just want to make money off the afis here. :)

Something like 7 of those posted for sale in the last 24 hours, 6 in about 9 hours today, all for incredibly high prices. Did anybody buy one to actually keep or collect or use? That explains why they sell out fast and ordinary people have such a hard time getting in on the pre-order. This is about the same as when concert tickets or football tickets go on sale- the scalpers buy all of them and the ordinary guys are stuck paying inflated prices or staying home.

I'm ordinary people and I sure didn't have trouble getting a couple. I don't see how anyone that was into Spyderco when they went on pre-order missed one. All you have to do is check this forum and you won't miss a thing. You could even check in on the Spyderco forum as well. Its no secret what's coming out and people will post about it.

If someone isn't into knives(or Spyderco's) when they went on pre-order they miss out. But once they get into knives and stay they will never miss another.

There are always latecomers. Some people might have been on the forums but was still not as savvy as some as when the pre orders were announced. Or some may have registered after the pre-orders sold out. These people who might otherwise have a pretty awesome user are precluded by the scalpers and will have to pay a premium. So it's not just a "you snooze, you loose" for some.

I agree on that point. I suppose what I mean is I don't have a problem with people making a buck. But taking advantage of a situation I do not care for.

I don't like the idea of scalpers either, but there's not much I personally can do about it, other than not buy from them. Unfortunately, there's always someone else willing to pay their price....and that's what keeps them doing what they do.

Thats why I said the last sentence. And I was just explaining to him that an ordinary person could get one, and how.
There will always be newcomers to knives, and to the forums. But once we find the forums there is no reason to miss anything. We all miss out until we join the forums. I know I did on some things, and I didn't complain about it because I was late. I knew I would have to pay more, and I did on a few, but it wasn't the sellers fault I was a latecomer to the forums.

These knives, and many other brands special runs can sell out fast, so latecomers won't be able to get a "awesome user" anyway. If you're into the brand and Blade Forum when they come out you don't miss them. If you're not you do. Thats just the way it goes.

You think we don't know that? That's why we're complainig in this thread. Can't we just vent without getting scolded? :p

Oh yeh, I'm getting one too. A friend got in early on the pre-orders and he got one for me too. So I'm not complaining because I'm not getting one. ;)

Help me understand the point? Those that sold theirs took a blade out of the hands of a would be user? So by that logic we should also be mad at those that buy 2 of the same models? Or those that have more than 1 color of the same model. Your logic to me seems like a slippery slope.

As long as there are Para 2 sprint runs there will be threads like this. LIke it or not. The very concept of a sprint lends itself to this type of behavior.

No, it just cost the ACTUAL end user a lot more due to the introduction of a "middleman" who adjusted the premium to reflect the scarcity/desirability of the product.

Right?!

Aftermarket value is never a concern for me when shopping for a knife (if it goes up, great), I think the best solution is for Spyderco to produce PM2 sprints in greater quantities to match demand. This one has 700 pieces and at a limit of 2, as little as 350 people secured one at the intended price. But hey, let's sell it to the end user who missed out for $300 the day it comes out since they're willing to pay for it. Nothing wrong with it per se. Still disturbing that it gets sold the day it is received for such a mark up. Basically, it's a brand new knife and the starting price is $300.

I also have one coming in from a generous friend who was able to preorder.

Thanks for looking out Josh, aka Salmonkiller.

So is it the fact that it is sold so soon or the price?
I truly am trying to understand the passion behind these threads. I have ruffled feathers in the past over selling knives. Seems like Spyderco fans are very passionate about their hobby. This is a testament to a great product and a great Company. I am trying to understand your point, but at first glance it looks as if you have been crazy busy in the sales thread with limited editions, so help me out here? Those that want the flipping to stop eventually throw out the moral high ground card and it never makes any sense to me.

FCM415,
I agree the flipping is disturbing, especially when everyone who did pre-order hasn't received theirs yet. The same thing happened when the orange DoDo was released: I recall the first one on (an auction site) going for $200. I don't know if Spyderco could produce enough sprints to satisfy demand and curtail this behavior; they'd basically have to flood the market with enough product so that there was always that product available to purchase from reputable dealers, eliminating the need for ELUs to buy at higher markups. Or Spyderco could just start selling all their sprints at $300 and price the scalpers out of the market too!!!

I don't think it's hard to understand the point of this thread: some people who missed the pre-order now are paying double the price for the same knife, sold by some people who didn't miss the pre-order and very likely never intended to keep/use the knife in the first place, and only intended to sell it for an inflated price, knowing it would be immensely popular. Also, some people who missed the pre-order are cleared priced out of the market at these secondary prices. Counterpoint: capitalism is a b*tch!!! Did I miss anything?

I am into plenty of knives, and as far as me being crazy busy on the exchange with limiteds, well let's see... Ive sold three CBCF's for $370 and two SHOTSHow Grips for $180 this month, less than how much most dealers sold em for. Thanks for bringing that up, it shows that not everyone is in it to make a fast buck.
