There is always room for improvement! šŸ’ŖšŸ¼

StoneAndSteel StoneAndSteel Nice rack! I wish both of mine had that many different holes alone the front like yours. What brand?
It’s PRX Performance. They’re a ND company and I’m a sucker for things made in the US. So far it seems to be good quality, but the bushings on the bar may need some lube (the sleeve isn’t rotating smoothly under heavy-ish weight). Really excited to not have to leave the house at the butt crack if dawn just to get a workout in.

It’s GREAT being able to wake up, walk down into the basement, workout, then jump in the shower.

Where’s everybody’s hung go new year workouts? 🤣

I got grip and lower back in this morning:

Eh, as mentioned in another thread, I don’t bother with New Year’s resolutions. If something is a worthwhile goal, I work towards it.

Still trying to just get back to where I was before the hernia surgery last year (and before the stupid coworker gave me whatever damned plague she had 😔).

I’d mentioned training towards doing a Murph Challenge this Summer.

Had worked up to things like 27 consecutive bodyweight pull-ups, and doing 100 reps in 5 sets of 20, along with doing 5 sets of 7 reps with a 40lb weighted vest.

Currently at 5 sets of 6 reps with the vest, and only managed 82 reps in 5 sets with just bodyweight (20, 20, 16, 13, 13).

It’s pissing me off that it’s taking this long just to get back to where I was, and it’s REALLY pissing me off that in the 1 week I was able to start lifting after the post-op recovery, I hadn’t lost THAT much strength. It was the 3 weeks fighting the plague from the inconsiderate coworker that really set me back. For whatever stupid reason, whenever I catch some bug that I can’t get over in a week or less, I lose a LOT of strength/muscle 😔

When you get to my age...linear progression becomes much less linear. I worked out today. Went up on a couple of movements, same on another, down on another. This remains the case even when I change the amount of recovery time between training sessions. Reality is a MF'er.

I get it, in my 70's I'm not gonna be the guy I was in my thirties and forties, or even fifties. But...the alternative...of giving in and putting weights, kettlebells, and sandbags aside...ain't happening.

So, don't sweat the small stuff. Push yourself within your limits, accept your gains or progress for what it is, and be thankful every day that you can lift weights and not be like so many of the folks you see on commercials who live for and with the aid of pharmaceuticals.

It's all a matter of perspective and dealing with what is. Like I said...reality is...you know.

Definitely.

I plan to keep pushing myself. The setbacks are just annoying, but they don’t discourage me from clawing my way back, tooth and nail.

I know my clock is ticking down on the point where it’s no longer about trying to make any appreciable gains, and more about holding off/slowing the decline, which is why I’m pushing myself to make those gains now, while I’m still able to see those gains happen.

Yes I agree with this. That’s why I inserted the laugh emoji, to indicate I was saying it tongue in cheek.

Agreed!
