There is always room for improvement! šŸ’ŖšŸ¼

I HATE stupid/inconsiderate people with a passion.

I mentioned getting hernia repair surgery back in August for an abdominal hernia, and having to take it easy and avoid anything that might stress the repair, which meant having to take a break from lifting (post-op recovery was to avoid lifting anything more than 15lbs for 6 weeks).

After the post-op recovery period, I had ONE week, where I got back to lifting (still being cautious with anything that involved flexing/tightening my abs a lot.

Well, I had that ONE week, before an inconsiderate coworker gave me the friggin plague because she just HAD to come give me a hug, THEN proceed to tell me how sick and shitty she was feeling, with a sore throat, while coughing nonstop.

Whatever this stupid plague was, took weeks to recover from, and I lost more strength dealing with that stupid shit, than I did during my post-op recovery. Now I have a steeper hill to climb just to get back to where I was, because of one stupid person.

*** reading some of the posts about the CPK get together, where more than one person who’d planned to go, wound up canceling because they’d come down with an illness, and CHOSE not to go and infect everyone else, just drove this difference in mentalities home. 😔

It’s amazing how fast you lose gains. But generally recover from them fairly quickly. I’ve been dealing with some back issues. Doc seems to believe the point of origin is my little run in with an IED in Baghdad 2004. Got slammed around my gunner turret during the explosion. So now I’ve got a couple bulging disk, and 3 large bone spurs. Seems to have been aggravated by a wreck I got in back in 2022. These last 2 years is where I’ve put on the majority of my weight. Lead a pretty sedentary lifestyle….as everything causes back pain. Then finally a doc suggested a rhizotomy. Where they go in and burn the nerves in my back. Probably the best thing I’ve ever encountered. Almost completely got me to where I don’t need any pain killers except for flair ups. But since I got that. I’ve been able to move much better which helped with weight loss also. Instead of sitting on the couch throwing my own fully catered pity parties. I go for walks around the property. Walk my neighborhood picking up roadside trash and recently started with the kettlebells and push ups. Used to knock out about 80 in 2 minutes. And just started those again. I got about 10 first time. Now I’m up to 2 sets of 30. So I’m getting those back pretty quick.

But yeah. People are either just ignorant to their little monkey status from outbreak or just don’t understand that if you’re sick. Stay TF away from me!!!!

Sorry I’m a mixed bag of rambling……a glass into some Tito’s while smoking a pork butt. And pickling all my favorites. Red onions. Ginger. Cucumbers. With some garlic and scotch bonnet peppers for a bit-o-heat.

I’m all over the place here. So I bid my brothers a fair good evening. I’ll try to post some pictures if it comes out alright!!!!

What’s particularly aggravating, is an anecdotal observation;

It isn’t ignorance that drives the behavior, it’s inconsideration and selfishness. The observation that I’ve seen time and again, is that these inconsiderate, selfish idiots don’t give a damn whether they get anyone else sick, when they themselves are sick, but when someone else is sick, they’ll be the first to go, ā€œOh, you’re sick? Well, I’m going to stay away from you. I don’t want to catch it/I can’t afford to get sick, because I have too much to doā€.

It’s not that they don’t understand the relationship between communicable respiratory illnesses and proximity, it’s that they’re self-centered, inconsiderate pieces of shit. 😔

My wife and I both got Covid a few years back a couple of days following us both having routine dentist visits at the same hour. That was particularly annoying, given that someone or someones should have just stayed home...

Water under the bridge now...but I felt particularly bad for my wife as the accompanying sore throat was really difficult for her.

And that’s the thing; many/most dental and medical appointments nowadays, have a check in that includes asking if a person has any symptoms of a respiratory illness. The selfish assholes ignore that they’re supposed to reschedule because they don’t care about anyone else.

I'm please to say that I have performed my first Olympic barbell clean since the back pull last September, and I'm still alive. Only 135 lb, and yes the back felt a little funny when I dropped into the ATG front squat but all in all, pleasing to determine I can still do them. I'll see where I can go with them.... gradually.

I recorded some stuff today for self eval.

185 was a success again today.
Then some pistols. Bit of cheating and lots of energy and tension leakage apparent in the video footage. But still, this time last year I could not even straighten my leg out in front.
165 x 4.
Then some pistols again.
Then I was ready to do a burnout set at the end with 135 and flubbed it, and called it there.

I can't bring myself to do proper triple extension on the clean due to the low ceiling. Probably wouldn't hit it, but it's a psychological thing. I'm getting what I want out of the cleans all the same.

Take-away: My balance and stability have taken a serious hit, presumably due to the lack of core movements over the last year. But my self administered rehab has clearly put my in a position where that can all be trained back up.

Can only post 5 media items per post, so will post the blooper reel in the next post.

Makiwara and dit da jow are back in the rotation.

Started simple. 15 of each per hand:

Straight punch horizonal
Straight punch vertical
Backfist
Palm heel strike
Open handed slap
Hammerfist (a little bit ouch, I'm a weakling)
Sword hand (yeah okay lots ouch)

It's a handheld makiwara so it's good grip training as well. Maybe not ideal for developing perfect striking technique, but I am doing it primarily for the strengthening benefits to my hands, since those are my livelihood. And it doesn't hurt to be able to slap a fool. 🫢

Someone mentioned, not eating in the morning before the workout.
I read along time ago, if you eat, the blood will go to your digestive system rather than give muscles a pump. Which I adopted as law.
This may go hand in hand with the, don’t swim after food, which I was raised on.
So yesterday I ate cereal w/ banana. And the workout was a disaster. I felt like dung all day.
Never again!
