My mail call was pretty awesome today too. Got my 45 ton ironworker delivered today. What sucks though is I have to assemble it.......... that will take a forklift. The head unit is 750 lbs.

That's awesome, Todd. Do you have access to a forklift?

I am envious of people with fabricating skills.

LMAO!!!!! How many Army officers did you talk to that said thats true? And where was this officer training held at?

There is a HUGE HUGE HUGE difference in a Army soldier and an Army Officer though. There is a huge difference in an officer and a soldier period.

I have been stationed with or spent time with Army, Air Force, Navy, and Marines... The ones that have it the hardest from my own experience is the Marines. Plain and simple. No question about it.

But I talked to several guys straight from West Point. the first year or 2 of plebe life sounded nothing like what you mention. But i didnt personally go through officer training so i dont know from experience.

In case you're wondering, I actually got to play Playstation with them during their training over PSN. This isn't hearsay; I know it happened. Training was held at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio (where my wife is right now, in fact, and where we may likely end up getting deployed for a few years). And yes, I realize it's different for enlisted. But yeah, the basic officer training for the Army sounded like a real joke in comparison to what the AF and Navy ones were like. And I know there's got to be inter-service rivalry. Fact of the matter is, I have the utmost respect for those who serve our country in the military, and I don't tend to crack jokes about any branch. Not my prerogative. I've got an Army Ranger friend who says that Marine stands for "Much athleticism required, intelligence not essential," and you know, he can say that. He's put in his time, and done two tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan. I don't feel that I should, you know? I'm obviously required to defend the Air Force a little more rigorously, but truth is, there's a reason I offer a military discount, and a reason why I've helped the children of veterans pro bono with college consulting.

I wasnt trying to start anything, and hope you didnt take it like i was, i just thought that was funny so i thought id ask. But again, like said i have no experience in officers training... I didnt find out until yesterday that im almost genius with a 144 IQ LMAO

And i believe the playstation part 100%, once i got out of basic and went to my first training location we had a playstation right in our barracks room. It was my buddies/room mates.. I dont play video games much, but there were plenty of people with video game systems.

The part i thought was funny was the maid service and nap times. My experience being ENLISTED was almost the opposite on the maid topic anyway. The Air force bases i have been stationed at had waitresses in the DEFAC .. Well they may have not been called that but they would bring me hot sauce and pick my plate up when i was done so thats what i called them... There was also a service that came to the barracks to get and wash dirty clothes and uniforms... While i was stationed with Army we took our own trays and cleaned them off ourselves... If i wanted hot sauce i kept it in my pocket from my room. And i never seen any type of laundry service other than the washers and dryers down stairs and my 2 hands. Now there were services at or near the PX, But no one coming to get our stuff from the rooms. No one ever cleaned our rooms, clothes, buildings, vehicles or anything else except us. Hell one platoon i was in wouldnt even let you use off post dry cleaning. They wanted you to press everything yourself... How happy was I when the ACU's came out and we were told we didnt need to press them, and the boots no longer required polishing everyday. That was a great day.. cost me a few hundred bucks though because they wouldnt issue us the ACUs since we all already had sets of BDUs.. had to buy our own.. which was worth it to NOT have to iron and spit shine boots anymore.

Anyways, like i said i have no experience in officer training, and i was just asking because it sounded nothing like what i have heard from West point grads. But then again west point and Sam Houston are 2 entirely different beasts so it could be completely different.

And yes you always get the rivalry. Everyone thinks they had it harder or worse... Hell until my injury i had it great. And most those great times i can attribute to being stationed with the Air Force.. I have no problems with any other branches. But you see a lot of rivalry. And hear a lot of rumors. Hell one rumor i still cant get over is the "stress card" in basic training.

just for fun.... US ARMY= Uncle sam aint released me yet, Or Aint really Marines yet or "U Soldiers Aren't Ready for the Marines Yet." But backwards is even better.. "Yes my retarded a$$ signed up" Love that one LOL..... There so many of them dang things.

Yes it does.

Thanks!!

Can you pay for them with like a debit card or does it go on a phone bill?

Sorry for the questions. I have no experience with that stuff but id like to put it on my wife's tablet anyways.. she would like it

Yeah, I get the impression that certain types of officer training aren't the same. The same could be said about USAFA though, or any of the service academies. We were certainly surprised that the Army training was the least intense of the bunch. We definitely thought, given the reputation, that the "Chairforce" would have it the easiest, which turned out not to be the case.

Sometimes I wonder, if my life had gone differently, if I could have made it through basic, or worse, something like BUDS or the SAS qualification march, etc. Problem was, my parents are sheeple, and had really non-accurate views of the military, and my high school counselors led me to believe that the military was for those who weren't smart enough for college. Turns out there are some incredibly smart people in the military, and it wouldn't necessarily have been a waste. I'm really good at puzzle games, and my reading speed is about 2000 pages an hour, with good retention. I'm also pretty decent at kinesthetic stuff. All of that would likely have been an asset in the military (although I might well have gotten put into a REMF position, and probably would have been grumpy about that).

But, my life went in a different direction, and I'm not unhappy with how it's going. I'm probably too old now anyways, and have too high a level of education for the military to call me up for selective service barring some massive war. Even then, our technological advantage appears to be so much greater than that of any other country that, if Congress doesn't tie our soldiers' hands with stupid ROE, I get the impression that it would be pretty surprising if we couldn't kick the **** out of anyone we tangled with, even without a major draft. I guess time will tell.
