What things do you cut with your EDC that really destroy the edge?

I cut some pink fiberglass insulation and acoustical ceiling tiles with my CTS-20CP Para2 today. It list it's shaving sharp edge the first cut. It progressively dulled as I continued to use it.

I'm curious as to what others have ran into that will dull even super steels very quickly.

silicon carbide sand paper, or any sand paper in general... I use cheapy utility knives for that stuff so it saves on my edc's edge.

Large hidden box staples! I went to zip open a box at work with my Kershaw Skyline, and underneath the tape were three big staples. :grumpy:

rcoz- so will playing knifey-spooney... :)

OT; accidentally cutting through something into dirt beneath it dulls an edge pretty quickly as well.

USE - Not trying to be a smartass, but it's true. If you use a knife rather than simply
Admire it - it will dull.

fiberglass ductboard. eats the edge off of a knife in one or two long cuts (like 48" length cuts).

As mentioned, fiberglass insulation dulls an edge and fast. Shingles are pretty rough too. Some cardboard will kill an edge really quick as well.

i caught a giant staple in some wood with my m4 spyderco and not only did it take the edge off but even chipped it slightly

These two things you listed I have found to dull an edge faster than anything !!! They both contain glass fiber which I suspect is the culprit !!! They practically reduce super steels to a disposable razor blade :D

It still cuts pretty impressively after it though. This knife makes one heck of a user. Even when it won't cut paper it will tear right thru the insulation. :)

Fiberglass insulated ceiling tiles, the thick ones. Just one made the FFG VG-10 Endura I had lose an edge.

I was cleaning an island on the Deleware river a few years back for a scout service project and there was a tire that had filled with sand over the years and was too heavy to move. I had to cut the time to remove the sand. It killed the edges on both my delica and my leatherman charge's serrated blade very quickly. My guess is the sand was the largest factor in the dulling.

Bone, hitting bone while dressing/skinning/butchering an animal will wreck a edge fast..

I rarely use my knife at Christmas time. I had a Browning Ice Storm (Mcusta) that I had just bought. I had only used it for admiration up to that point after purchase. At X-mas my daughter asked me to cut a ribbon for her. I found out, after two tries, that some fancy ribbons have high strength wire on both sides for shaping. Instead of admiration, there was much lamentation until Lansky saved my day.
