think im going to quit collecting

Ill get back into it eventually because i do love knives, i just need to straighten out my POV and priorities first.

Getting rid of knives is messed up priority-wise.:D
I should have bought new clothes according to some...but I knew better, and bought some more knives.

Hopefully you can find another hobby that you will enjoy more! Knives are not for everyone, but for now I am loving it.

Knives are for me just not to the extent of a knife nut, i need to be casual with it, like special occasions, holidays, birthdays, not just always looking for something to buy, i went too far, now i need the opposite extreme, nothing for a while.

A fella still needs a knife whether he buys a bunch or has only one. Knowing what I know now, I think I'd be content if I stopped at owning/carrying a SAK and a Spyderco Delica 4. Glad I don't have to find out for sure! :p

Do what you feel is best for yourself, ChrisFarms! Godspeed...

Right now i think just carrying something to cut the just random daily things that may come up, for now just keep it simple until i can get a grip on it.

Wow, you write as if you sold off a ton of knives, but if you sold everything for 350, that doesn't seem like a lot. Two of my knives could total 350 dollars...Get yourself some high end carry blades and enjoy.

I had the same problem, when I first got into knives. It was too many, too quickly. I got hooked on the hunt and score of the next knife. I ended up using the credit card for purchases, without my wife's knowledge, and realized I was in trouble. I took a break, re-assessed my priorities, and began setting up some rules for myself. Only buying with cash-in-hand, and relying as much as possible on trading what I already had. I now have a savings account just for knives, and only spend what's available. That keeps me from going too fast.

When you get to the point that you can appreciate a $300 knife, and the time it takes to save up for it, you become much more careful about what you buy.

Enjoy your break, and know that when the time is right, you will be able to control the hobby, and there will be so many knives to choose from!:D

Throw a Vic Classic in your pocket.

It's good that you took the first step, which is to realize that you are powerless over knives and that your life had become unmanageable. Of course, the 5th Step is it "Admit to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs."

Tell us all the other screen names! I have theories as to who they are! I gots to know! (Good thing I'm not obsessive-compulsive!)

No...really don't. It would do nobody any good.

Just get the Classic. It does everything and costs like 10 bucks.

Thanks, i think a good idea could be just chucking that one random 1$ in my pocket in a jar, and i dump my change in a gallon water jug after i go out to the store, So once that totals up to a decent amount thatll be the time for the next blade.

As long as getting that doesn't involve another horde of "Suggest a medium priced EDC"' threads!

Enjoy your break ChrisFarms. Look forward to hearing from you in the future! No sneaky coming back under another name in the meantime! :D

It's always good to take a step back from anything if you need it before you go obsessive. And all those screennames were getting a little nutty! What was there...like eight of them?

But...good on you...take a break. Practice those capital "I"s and apostrophes! Keep one knife you have and use it.

Tell us all the other screen names! I have theories as to who they are! I gots to know! (Good thing I'm not obsessive-compulsive!)

Enough of the trolling. This isn't W&C.

I feel ya. I kinda jumped into this hobby pretty fast too. A lot of less expensive knives very quickly. I then dipped my toes into the world of expensive knives, and felt almost compelled to acquire a collection of $500+ folders. Luckily, I calmed down just in time. Expensive knives are nice, but I agree with you. They're not cost effective unless you can appreciate the craftsmanship. Right now I've consolidated my collection to 4 (opinel, 560, military, sebenza), with no desire to expand beyond that. I would like to eventually get my hands on an SnG, but I don't feel the pressing need to acquire it NOW, like I used to. I'm quite content with what I have and eventually when my change jar is full enough, I'll go ahead and purchase it. Right now, I get pleasure from using my knives, not just looking for my next fix.

I have quit buying swords and knives at least 5 times. I always come back though.

I wish you well..

It's bad enough that knives are cool, it's a thrill to aquire a new one, and that there are so many desireable knives out there, but all the enablers here on Bladeforms just make it harder for some, or many, to resist the urge to buy. There's no shortage of people on this forum (and even in this thread) who try to talk people into buying not only MORE knives, but more EXPENSIVE knives "You just don't know how good life can be until you get an XYZ", and of course that XYZ costs $400 or more. The membership majority here certainly aren't inclined to talk people OUT of buying knives. :D

I used to buy knives just for the thrill of getting a new knife, and even though most were quality knives, in hindsight they were a waste of money. Eventually I reached the point where I decided I had the right knives to do what I need knives for and I stopped buying. As a result I haven't bought a knife in over five years.

Of course, there are a few knives I would like to buy. You're never fully cured. ;)

Good for you chrisfa. Hopefully you broke the "knife spell" before it cost you too much. I often think about all the modern, tactical, one-handed folders I bought over the years, and I think about how the $25 Buck 110 I received as a kid would have served me just as well as all the $100 to $300 knives that I bought.

Sometimes we need to re-boot & re-access our priorities to make sure it doesn't get overboard. It's just the challenge holding back when to start the ball rolling again. The only good thing is when that happens, there are a lot to choose from. I'm proud of you & good luck hibernating! :)
