those of you that have one, is it high quality, or should i pass?

How does it compare to a BK9 for chopping? (that's my standard for a chopper)

Side by side pics encouraged...

Better put some Becker on it, or this thread heads to General.

not a choice... already have a BK9 airborne with a bullseye on my front door.

just considering adding a boomslang to my collection. But i'm all about quality

Thanks.

I think the Boomslang will out chop it, but I think the BK9 has a better HT.

Joe Flowers designed it, and he so happens to be in my phone. I would like to see how the Dundee Bowie stacks up against the BK9 for chopping.

1085 vs 1095CV, and I have to dive the edge to the BK9 just for the Tooojfactor (real word, look it up).

Condor has been coming out with some spectacular designs, Joe's been busy, for damn sure, but if you know Joe, you know that grass don't grow under his feet. It gets trampled in a mad dash to make time.

That Dundee has me convinced, I want it. Do I think it will out perform the BK9, no, not really, but its fun and I have a few Condors already.

Do I think the Boomslang will outperform the BK9, maybe a little in chopping, but I think the BKT handle will win the ergos for small work.

I own a Boomslang. I also own many a Beckers, including a BK9. The Boomslang is a great knife. 3/16" thick, micarta handle, large choil. About the only things it needs is some jimping, a forward lanyard hole & a bow drill divot in the handle. I will be making these mods to mine someday, soon i hope. Sheath is AWESOME, IF you like leather sheaths. It is HD & thick, as thick as the blade almost. I did have to work on the blade a bit (4x) & reprofile it before it chopped as good as my BK9 did straight out of the box. I like it & am glad i bought it. It certainly is heavier in weight & your hand will tire more easily than with a BK9 when chopping for a while. I would have NO ISSUES batoning with it as hard as you can, because i have done it, with no issues. I plan to get a kydex sheath for it someday. Someday, i may spend about $2000 on kydex for all my blades.

That is a neat looking knife...The more I look at Condor the more I really like some of their lineup. But never owned/handled one so I have no idea as to quality.

Looked up Tooojfactor, and got no results from google. The first 3 results it popped up instead all referenced Britney Spears. Pretty sure that's not what you were going for :)

All the designs for the last couple of years have been Joe Flowers, a helluva guy, and an knife USER. Emphasis there for a reason. I live the designs, but, I have issues with the QC and soft steel sometimes. Soon, they will be a force to reckon with.

Your googlefu sucks.

Tooojfactor- a modern metallurgical phenomenon that seems to occur within a close proximity to Paul Tsujiomoto, and 1095 Cro-Van steel. With more flexibility, better edge retention, and an overall toughness, the Tooojfactor must be taken into account when comparing other steels to 1095 Cro-Van. Other 1095 Cro-Van products seem to be slightly lessened, without Tooojfactor.

:D

okay, now here's a question i'm not sure i'm allowed to ask... where is the cheapest place YOU know of to get one?

I am looking at $78 shipped on amazon... anyone know anyone in stock with a better price by more than a buck or 2?

NO. I paid almost $20 more for mine.

I think the boomslang is the better chopper. I would compare it to an RTAK more than the BK9 due to wt, length. I can attest to the HT being quite good on the condors. They hold an edge well and I find the edge to be very tough. This would be abuse, but I tested the edge of my condor kukri machete by pressing it directly into the edge of a smith and wesson axe (made of 1075 carbon steel) and the condor came out the winner cutting a perfect convex outline of its blade in the SW blade. I also chopped the edge with a lot of force into the shaft of a steel hammer and got the same result. I found the edge holds up very well in acutal use, but its true you do have to basically take it to a belt sander to put a good edge on it in the first place.

Great post, GL.

I found the forward wieght of the 'Slang, coupled with the rounded handle with no swell, kept making me stop and get a higher grip. Also noticed more wear on the second section of my fingers, where the slide was occurring. Did you get the same, or was it me?

I am not scared of a reprofile. I've reprofiled 19 different blades in the last 3 days with my WKST.

I am wondering if i'm going to regret getting a BK9 now because i really did only want it as a chopper, and i have a feeling i'll end up using my BK7 and Boomslang together a lot more than the BK9
