Got a few WIP shots for you guys on a BB13 the belongs to zmbhntr. He wanted it full flat ground to try to fix up the balance point a little since it's SUPER front heavy. Prior to the grind work I weighed it in at 24.2 oz. Here's a before shot:
Wow, converting this hardened hunk of steel to a full flat grind is going to take some WORK... good thing I have a 3M ceramic 36 grit belt
... but even with this it still took a good while!
First thing was to straight the spine side of the grind, then once I had that established I was able to walk it up to the spine then back down to the edge... didn't want to lose any spine thickness whatsoever here.
Since I wet grind I was able to capture the steel dust that I ground off... check it out!
I was only taking this to 60 grit, but it turned out nice. The woven scotch brite belt helped bring it all together. I set the edge to 15 dps w/ a 20 dps microbevel on with the Wicked Edge. Shoulders are left on the thicker side at .040-.045" thick since it's full flat now. Oh yeah, and I bead blasted/stripped the paint on the remaining part of the blade then added my logo by request.
Here's the balance point now... can't even begin to tell you how much better this feels in hand!
Now it weighs in at 19.6 oz! Ready for work... Heading back to you on monday Ben!
