This is a Rum Thread...

Well got lucky and received a bottle of Ron Zacapa Centenario 23 anos. Simply put, wow and really outstanding!!
There is something in it the reminds me of Zaya, a little something at the end as it finishes off. This one is a must try to put on your list.

OK...now that the holiday period is over (thanks god - in-laws are gone!), I have a little more time to write a "mini-amateur review" of my coolest christmas gift: a bottle of Santa Teresa 1796! :D

After enjoying the El Dorado 15 for a while, I must admit I was a little disappointed after the first glass...
I found the Santa Teresa very subtle, almost shy. Quite on the dry side. This is not "heavy-duty" stuff, like the El Dorado 15 can be (which, at times, can be a very good thing!).
The color is an appetizing bright orange, and there's nothing in the flavour profile that immediately jumps at you, as opposed to "coconut" in the Mount Gay XO, or "Vanilla" in the Angostura 1919.
The aftertaste is medium/long for me, has it keeps coming back even half an hour after the glass is empty. After 3-4 glasses on different occasions, I must say the Santa Teresa 1796 is now my favorite Rum!

Now, my list of Rum to try is:
- Gosling Black Seal (thanks guys!)
- Appleton Estate Extra (read it is quite good...)
- Pyrat XO (as mentionned by H2O Cutter)
- Ron Zacapa Centenario 23 (seems hard to find around here)
- Zaya Grand Reserve (hard to find as well)
- Barbancourt 8 (another one I'll have to track down)

Here's the free picture, with my Spyderco specimens...

Santa Teresa is excellent stuff.

Right now I've got a bottle of Murry McDavid 11yr Caroni. It's great stuff. basically tastes like sherry enhanced gold rum. it has the most amazing nose. for me sniffing it is just as much fun as drinking it.
