This Weeks Video

That video is definitely you my friend. I wouldn't change a thing. For people who haven't met you or don't know you, this gives them an opportunity to "see" your personality. All in all great job by you and the crew...Cheers bro..

Thanks Bill. You'd know. Hey, I finish ground your wrench knife this morning. Woot!

Great first video Andy! Way to get out of your comfort zone and try something new! Hope you guys continue putting out videos.

We will definitely be putting out more videos. I won't say I enjoyed it. For some reason video filming makes me nervous as all get out. I was restless as hell the night before and paced a lot before shooting. Then when I saw the clips before editing I was completely uncomfortable. Wierd.

Nice job on the first video!
Would like to see more bloopers. :)

They're coming my friend.

Nice vid! I believe you state this is the place for viewer questions, that you might address in future productions. I got one for you. May sound dumb, but, think of it as a softball:

Andy, I'm a hunter, fisherman, day hiker, mountain biker - well former in some of those. But what the heck is Bushcrafting? Never heard of it. What does a knife have to do with this activity?

Good question Tom. I'll try to address that next week.

Nicely done Andy. I think these will be very successful for you. As a result, I feel the new and new potential customers will appreciate the simplicity of the videos. These create a connection between yourself, your crew and the customer. I think it's important for the new customer to get to know you. I believe that creates a sense of trust as well.

As a long time customer, I and others have a friendship established with you and everyone involved. We have a trust in the product as well. The new customer doesn't have that yet. This will help to establish that foundation and create a connection with yourself.

Again nicely done my freind!

Nice video. Subbed to the channel! Looking forward to this series of videos.

Great video enjoyed it

Question - Since spalting is unique to fiddleback forge and personally I think it adds to the character of the knife and sets it apart. How did you come up with it?

This is the thread that I want to house the discussion of the videos, the current one and questions and suggestions on upcoming ones. We are going to do a very basic intro video this Wednesday. This is a starting point for us. We are going to introduce Fiddleback Forge, tell about our history, and introduce a few knives. Once we get this far, we have a consultant that will come in and teach us to do multi camera videos. He will help us setup the cameras and sound equipment, then teach us the editing. After that we will be doing them ourselves. What I hope to see is improvement week to week. I'm excited about this. Phillip has been studying since last week. We're going to have fun with it.

So if you have any questions post them here and maybe we'll use them on future videos. Thanks!

Great first video!!! I hate having my picture taken or being in front of a camera. You did a great job Andy. The out take at the end was perfect. I can't wait to see more.

Question for video: are there any important safety recommendations for aspiring knifemakers? How do you keep a blade from spinning out while under the grinder? How do you know when to step back and self check to prevent an accident? What's with the masks? Thanks.

Would also love to hear thoughts on the logistics of shop layout and tool selection and their contribution to flow/design/implementation.

Good stuff

I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on knife design (from inspiration to napkin sketches to cut steel), what's important to you in a good blade and additionally what is your favorite profile/specs in your current lineup, the challenges you see yourself facing in the industry now/5/10 years down the road, and what you feel is/are your biggest accomplishment to this point since becoming a full time knife maker.

Great video and Thank you for taking the time to share it with us 👍🏻

Outtakes from the first video are posted. Thought we'd share a little more with y'all.

Hahaha. LOL.

I liked the video!
For the sake of discussion, it didn't suck...

Man, thats good news. I was suprised as well.

Great questions. I'll get into those next week.

Hmmmm. Tougher to address. I'll look into it though.

Tons of good questions and I'll look into saying something about those next week.

Nice video, there will be a steep learning curve and just about everyone feels strange at first. Luckily you get to control the editing. I liked the change-ups and cuts as you worked through the topic. Way better than just droning on. You kept the length right at about 2 minutes.

Constructive Criticism:
- Sound quality needs to be refined
- Over lighting was distracting where the video seemed whited out.
- Get the camera a little closer (fill up the screen with action not background) as your comfort in front of it increases.

Question for next week: What is a Convex grind and why do I care? Is it the same as a convex edge?

Good suggestions. I already purchased better microphone equip.

David is finishing the editing on this weeks Video and it will be up soon folks.

Andy I was thinking it might be cool to show some of the pics from the forum "user pics" thread each week in the videos. It would allow the non-forum viewers to see your knives in use. It might spark interest for the viewers that aren't well informed about your models and their various intended uses to see them in action. That might generate some additional participation in forum "user pics" thread as well.

Also maybe you could highlight a model each week. Just give a brief description of the model and it's intended use. It would allow a good visual for viewers when trying to determine which blade will best suit their needs. The in-hand pics are always great but a video would be a great selling feature.
