This Weeks Video

Excellent video this week and nicely done Phillip. I appreciate the opportunity to get to know everyone a little more. The forum is great but these short videos really make it more personal.

Andy and Phillip,
Awesome video and definitely great to put a face to a name/PM/email/post. I'd have to echo all of the previous comments on insight to personalities, how awesome each individual at the Forge is as well as the group they result in. Getting to know the characters behind the knives makes the knives even more special. Regarding the bog oak question, all I have to say is, "Alrighty then, that's fair enough" :-)

I recall Andy's previous comment about the need to wear a mask and how a beard would negate the protection. I won't pick on Phillip or suggest a "Friends of Phillip shave party" at Blade or anything ;) but had a mask question any time Bud has shared his shop shop pictures; Are visitors required or recommended to wear a mask when work is going on in the shop?

Really looking forward to next week's video with Allen also. <shout out to Allen>

Thanks for everything!

Hey Phillip, nice video bro! You're a natural in front of the camera. It truly is a pleasure doing business with you, and just interacting with you on the forum. However, I have to say that I'm shocked you're not into the bog oak. :D

Bud brings his own mask. As far as visitors are concerned, they are not allowed into the room w/ all the grinders and dust. We do have disposable masks available also.

Thanks Gus,
Imagine the outcry if I were into bog oak. I cringe whenever i see them pass through here. All I think about is "please go to the right address, please go to the right address, please go to the right address......:D

Warrior108, I bring my own respirator. The old shop had just about everything jammed in one dust filled room with the back roll up door open. First few dozen times i visited the shop, i didn't enter the work area ... 1. They're working and it was a tight space no matter where you stood. 2. The dust. Andy let me borrow a mask the first couple times I went in the 'shop' area. After that, i brought my own.

The new shop is sub divided into 3 zones (by walls, doors, etc). The grinder room is where a mask is highly 'suggested' to be worn - but it's an 'enter at your risk' kind of area. The hand sanding table in room 2 .. if i was sitting there all day, sanding, i would wear a mask. Room 1 (as i number them) is office areas, shipping, photographing, etc. No mask zone.

Hope that explains most of your question.

Thanks for posting another great video. I looked up all the knife makers you mentioned, and I was really impressed with their work. I will be looking for them at Blade.

Since this is the internet and MY opinion is the most important thing in the world, I have a few suggestions for future videos.

1) how knives are made. you could do this in a few parts; cut and heat treat, handles, hand grinding.

2) reviews of models. how did you come up with the design? what is the intended purpose? how does it compare to other models? show the knives being used...

3) Andy wears MC Hammer pants, dances and sings U Can't Touch This. I think you will get over 1,000,000 hits.

Saw the new video. Hated it! Andy is going to need a little hat if plans on being Blaine, Dylan, you got Antione nailed. Don't change a thing.

That time you watch a video of Andy describing his design criteria for knives, and realize that one of your mid-techs from another maker might be way comfortable in hand-- and it is!-- but fails "the test" and now you now can't un-see (and almost start to feel) that you do, in fact, own a poop knife.
