Thought this was interesting...

On the other hand, his ontario rat 7 review was what eventually got me into rat cutlery / esee. The rat 7 was what came before 3 izula's an rc-3 and rc-4.
It's not too far fetched to think that might have happened more often in the past. So he probably helped spread the word about tkcfkarc (the knife company formerly know as..)

Yea, there's good and bad in it. Like I said, the misquotes and bad info cause some confusion and cause me work (If I had a dollar for everytime I heard "But Nuttinfancy said...").

But your right, I'm sure his reviews have helped spread the word on a multitude of brands.

I did notice a pretty massive uptick in interest in the RAT-1 folder here on BF after his series of videos on it. Could have been coincidence....

As to shotgunner's comment about having a huge fanbase and thus having high expectations and he should raise the bar: I guess you could go on about this for politicians for hours too :D

Yes, you really have no idea how much I complain about politics.;)

And there is a hype going on in my opinion, everybody's talking about how they are so excited about everything about rc and they do so in LARGE numbers. Just look at the Rat Pack, that's great, it's great marketing, it's a great idea, but it's a hype too :)

The RAT pack was my thing. It really started with the absolutely most innocent of intentions. Mostly to make keeping track of contest enteries and contest winners easier.

It has taken on a life of its own.

and that's cool as far as I'm concerned. It's still a marketeers wet dream :)

IMO i think that Nutn is aiming more to the topics in general (because he tells people the the forums are bad places in a couple of his vid`s). Just like in general knife discussion, whenever someone asks about a small pocket fixed blade, the first 3 responses are 90%: Get an izula... i think that is the hype he means.

Not that i don't agree when i read a question like that and think to myself: ''Izula is what he needs indeed ''. To nutn it just means that this strong group of people that represent the ESEE community is making some strong influence on the other/new members and make them ``follow the mass``.
No offence to ESEE because they just make great products and deserve this kind of attention. I just think that Nutn just doesn't totally agree with it?

There's usually a reason a "following" forms. Spyderco, ESEE, [insert popular company here] all have so many fans/cults/followings because they make great products. I've yet to come across another knife like the Izula that is around the same price with the same quality and warranty so of course it'll be the knife I'll (along with many others) suggest to someone looking for a small fixed blade.

Hype? Maybe. But hype is, imo, determined by the individuals expectations, maybe Fancynuts thinks RC/ESEE should be able to stay sharp for ever and never ever break. When he picks up an ESEE he'll definitely think there's hype around the knives. I'm sorry but ESEE isn't as hyped as many other companies, I've yet to have any problems with any knife I've purchased from them (same can't be said about other companies with even larger followings).

I'm thinking Fancynuts is dwelling too much on the price and comparing to other knives that are cheaper, he doesn't take into account that ESEE's are made in the US with the best warranty you can ask for, they have great QC and customer service. It's funny really because he has so many knives (many that he doesn't even use) and he brings down a knife/company because the price isn't what he wants it to be (shows how egocentric and arrogant he is).

I'm with Shotty on this one, if he's going to give advice at least he can get his facts right. It's pretty obvious he's blindly comparing the RAT 7 to the RC/ESEE-6 (Rat Cutlery 7 according to him...) just because of the price and he says it's hyped... That's a childish way of thinking imo.

We just got a request from him to review an ESEE-6. I explained to him the mistakes he made in this review, so I'm leaving it to you guys whether we should send one for review.

I'd say let him review the 6. He'll definately put it head to head with the Ontario (was it the RAT7 he had?) just like he did with the other ESEE blades he's reviewed and I've always thought his points were fair.

From that seven seconds he mentioned the Ontario vs. "hyped RAT", I beleive he was simply misinformed.

hey boss...i say send him one and let him thrash on it.....Give him the chance to make an informed review instead of generalizing......

We just got a request from him to review an ESEE-6. I explained to him the mistakes he made in this review, so I'm leaving it to you guys whether we should send one for review.

yeah go ahead and send him one...let him get his friggin facts straight...

I Agree, Give him one and let him trash on it. He will see how good ESEE blades are.
Might as well give him a Izula to IMO. Just to make the perfect couple

and giving this snob a 200 dollar knife is going to fix his attitude problem?

he can send it back when he is done....I have to admit i am curious...you know he wants to review it because of the backlash....I can't help but wonder if the blade will get a fair shake...if he gives a glowing review he looks like a douch for his statements....if he gives a shitty review it reinforces his blanket statement and he can pat himself on the back for being "fair". I guess we will get the chance to see if ol nutn is a standup as he says he is.......

I say give it to him, if you're willing to (guessing you are because you guys are generous enough with all the contests around here). I can't help but think he's just wanting a freebie because he thinks 20 or so dollars more than the RAT-7 is overpriced/hyped, but that's just my take on it.

I say send him one to review.

Last year, I was only considering KA-BAR for fixed blades w/c got me to purchase the Ka-Bar Short and then the Becker BK-11.

I then saw (Nutnfancy's) earlier 10 min vids on the Ontario RAT-3/RC-3 Comparison and the RC-4 w/c got me to consider RC (now ESEE).

Send it to him. If he's wrong, we just post replies. He was fair on his rat 3 to rc3 videos.

I thnk he may have just been speaking without thinking. Let him eat those words. I doubt he can find reason to say the six isn't worth the price diffrence to the rat 7. And toss it in a molleback sheath too.

Someone needs to send his ass a wetterlings and an instruction sheet too

Send it.
Even though he said what he said, he's just human. We all make mistakes, and many times say things we don't exactly mean.
I also think he's a fair reviewer, and he actually got me into buying RAT knives first place (RC3 and 4 reviews).
Once he gets to use the RC6, he'll take his words back, praising RAT (ESEE) for another great product, blah blah blah....

I've never cared for nutinfancy or his videos for this very reason. He's talking about an RC-6, not an RC-7 (which doesnt exist).

Now I know he's wrong because I'm a knife guy and know knives but how many times is he wrong about stuff that I don't know about?

Can't trust his info as far as I'm concerned. Plus he has a know it all attitude that gets under my skin.

+1:thumbup: Yup,everything he said!
