Thought this was interesting...

I like watching his knife reviews because it gives a good view of the knife without me having to take an hour drive to the closest dealer.
word. that is one reason i watch his vids from time to time. for me it's a pita to get to a decent knife store and get my hands on steel. i occasionally try to listen to the stats, then just ignore whatever opinion he states. having said that, i guess it's an example of why he should get his facts straight. people do rely on them. now i do the research myself here and on shop sites. overall i guess his vids might be a good tool for people trying to get into knives and learn a bit more, but once you start learning for yourself he becomes kinda useless except for being able to look at the knife without actually holding it. kinda like training wheels.

He lost me the second he walked away from his site without putting out his fire. That is irresponsible. I don't care if it is winter with a tonne of snow.

He also didn't show much "testing" of his gear. maybe that comes later.

Anyway that "dude" needs to get over himself.

He never tests knives side-by-side. He just says "this knife is awesome," or "DUDE!" or "TUBULAR!" Gods, this guy is hilarious.

I'm telling you man, watch his axe videos.

I really think we need to make a nutnfancy drinking game.

Generally I like and enjoy his videos, reviews and the philosophy videos as well. I find them entertaining and informative, and in most cases he has a lot of experience in what he's talking about. Though you have to verify the facts if you really want correct info on important matters. :jerkit:
Though he has made a few moves that make me itch.
As far as the Ontario RAT-7 and ESEE-6, the wrong name alone says that he doesn't know what he's talking about:
They are roughly the same size, maybe like an inch difference in blade lenght.
I found the RAT-7 to be around 95$ online and the ESEE-6 to be around 105-110$. For that extra 10$ you get a better kydex sheath, better overall quality and heat treat and a no questions warranty. In his Ontario RAT-7 review his main complaint was the crappy sheath and talked about how he would maybe like to maybe have a kydex sheath made for it. What was the sheath on the ESEE-6 again? Oh right, KYDEX!
Right there he is acting like someone he detests, an "armchair elitist".
As far as the value goes, he just went and bought 2 massive CS folders that will probably never see real use, and recommended them to a large audience. IMO that's a waste.
Recently he has been contradicting himself way too much, he tries to do too much in too little time, with the huge fanbase and numerous requests hes moving from quality to quantity. :thumbdn:

Yeah I don't get it. I just watched his rc-4 reel, and he is like ga-ga for it, saying how he stared at it for hours cause its so cool. Weird!

I didn't watch the video or read all the posts but the bottom line to me is we welcome any opinion. True, he should have done his homework more on knife models but at least he took the time to make the video ;)

If what that guy is really doing is getting out and using the gear to the fullest, then we're all in trouble. If your going to do reviews to that amount of people then you owe them and the knife companies involved to get all of your facts correct and not innerject your opinion as the truth.

the guy spends hundreds of hours of his own time to make those videos. Should he not? I can read the thread now if he had said " I love the rc-6, that rat 7 is less money but its a real POS compared to ESEE's stuff." Everybody'd be like "that nutnfancy is soooo informative. He's such a cool guy. WOW he knows his stuff." BUUUUT he slandered your favorite brand and know ya got your knickers in a twist.

Fancynuts speaks his opinion as fact, it's bad when reviewing a product and annoying as hell. Rat Cutlery (ESEE) hyped? I always consider things hyped when they don't perform as I expect and people rave about them, haven't had any of that from ESEE yet.

Half the time the guy has his "research" wrong and just assumes that he knows what he's talking about. I give him credit for taking time to make videos, but if I watch his vids it's for entertainment (i.e. count how many times he says "doodz") or to get a better look at knives which he barely reviews anymore.

haha ESEE is not my favorite brand(sorry:o)

i dont wear "knickers"

i respect that he takes so much time making them

Its not about ESEE as much as its the fact that he doesnt research it at all and he says something that people will take as fact...

I bet it took a hell of alot of time to make the worlds biggest ball of yarn.

Who cares?

He can have whatever opinion he wants but take some time to get your facts right.

And no, after I watched his gleeming review of the RC-3, I still didn't care.

And therein lies the whole point: I don't know that I have ever bought any knife, gun, etc from reading a review in a magazine or on a forum. I have bought gear based on the suggestion of individuals that I know use the gear in the same way I do. For the most part (not all), gear reviews are a form of entertainment and nothing more. Things like this are subjective and based on the author's opinion so I look at it the same way I do the nightly news: take from it what you want to believe and leave the rest. Personally, I don't think a lot of our knives are deserving of the praise they get in most of the reviews, since I have seen 3 dollar POS knives perform as well, if not better, than our own stuff in Third World. Our stuff is just simple tools that most anyone can make and build to perform the same as ours do. I say the ESEE following is built more around the philosophy instead of the steel. The only thing that bothered me about the review is not the fact he liked the 7 better, it's simply the fact that he doesn't know that we don't make a 7. That's sort of piss-poor journalism in my opinion but, again, it's entertainment. But that's just my opinion. BTW: the RAT-7 from Ontario is an excellent knife.

i think alot of people forget that RAT designed the ontario line.....I love my rtakII....but i am a big boy with big hands so it suits me....what bothered me was the fact he said the ontario's were more affordable...then he does all kinds of stuff like the dow coating and upgrading the sheaths.....I am not seeing where he is saving money...and i didn't care for the implication of the only difference being hype...There is hype around every brand of knife.....but he himself laid out the differences in earlier videos.....just seems to be a little double talk....any way it is what it is......and i don't think any of us are gonna lose sleep of it......Drew

Well, how xo you expect a forum devoted to a brand of knife to react to someone poo pooing it? Really it's not going to make us happy. If he was knocking spacly sprockets, I'd imagine he'd not be popular over onthier forums. So I'm kind of confused as to why you bothered stating the obvius there, and what your point is.

Also, he could sing the praises of esee every video, and I'd still think he's full of himself, incorrect on many ideas, and drills home annoying crap like pou all video long. And then there's still the issue of his axe video....

I'd rather have an honest review than see one that is all praise or all bashing. Seeing the pros and cons of something is what makes me consider a purchase. I know reviews are essentially the reviewers opinion, but at least get facts right and actually use the product you're comparing the other one to. I doubt (from his "research") that he's even held an RC/ESEE-6.

ya i noticed the same thing.

oh and how come you didnt end your last post with your knifeability statment??? a little unusual isnt it? lol

There's alot of hype that goes on, regardless of a product's price, quality, etc, on the internet. RAT Cutlery/ESEE whatever you want to call it does have a very solid body of loyal followers, nobody can deny that. Maybe it has come to a point where its followers have grown to a size and fanaticism that detracts from its actual down-to-earth effectiveness for the cost. I'll be the first to say that I tend to vote for the underdog, the less-known, or the different, just because the voice of the herd is usually too loud for me. I can't stand Spyderco, regardless of the quality, because every other person on this forum recommends it, no matter what the conversation, purpose, etc. The loyal Rat Cutlery crowd all knows of the difference between Ontario made RATs and Rowen made RATs. We know the difference of design, fit, finish, customer service and warranty. We preach it wherever we see someone purchasing or advocating an Ontario made product. This overshadows the fact that the Ontario made RATs, despite the lesser level of quality, are still completely capable and well made knives for rugged outdoor use.
