IMO you can get all the quality and high end material you may need in the $100-250 price range.
Getting above means you are looking for something that just a good and efficient tool. It can be design , jewelry or some particular operation or smoothness... but that is different that just needing a knife
After years in the $30-250 range and quite some knives I have crossed the line and got some CRK
I am very happy I did.
It has helped me to understand what I like and what I make a good knife for me
I am now focusing more on the purpose and on the use of the knife that on the price tag, brand or materials
At least it helped me to better understand my personal expectations.
The knives I carry most are CRKs and Spydercos , they range from $60 to $600
I think that I get the more value for the money in the $150 range
My CRKs have spoiled most of my ZTs and BMs, bringing me to a more “basic” approach
I was all about flippers, I turned to manual folders
The next step may be going from framelock to slip joint
I have the temptation to try a shirogorov or a gareth bull in the futur but that is a lot of money for just an experience
I am pretty sure I can do all the jobs I need with the knives I already have
