Thoughts And Prayers For Our Dear Friend Rob Stanley. . . .

I always thought you'd lose a toe before a finger. Glad I didn't have money on it, and to hear you'll be back. Had us worried for a minute there.

Wow! First it's good to hear from you Rob and end all the speculation - With nothing to go on the mind can travel some crazy paths. I think we all had many different fears for you considering what we know you love to do.
That injury is a very serious one putting things in the bloodstream - it's an all too common mistake farmers can make with broken hydraulic lines that not only inject oil into the blood but slice off a digit like a water jet.

Best wishes and good vibes to your new found challenges and the success you will surely find once you figure it out because, you will figure it out.:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I was cleaning a spraypaint gun and it blew a hole in my left index finger and injected a ton of paint into my finger and hand. After 3 surgeries to try and clean it out, I ended up having the finger amputated. Lesson learned - Dulux Weathershield Roof & Trim is not meant to be inside you.
Allow me to have a drink in honor of your, now missing, digit.
A true warrior will seldom enter Valhalla fully intact.
I wish you a speedy recovery.

Glad to hear you're relatively OK. I know a lady that used to play piano -- beautifully I might add -- with only a short pinky and abbreviated thumb on her left hand. Listening to her, you'd have never known she had fingers missing. Creative guy like you, I'm sure you'll be back to playing the guitar in no time.

Dang, sorry Rob, I'm glad to hear that you are home already and wish you the best. I'm sure you will still find a way to play awesome music!

Prayers sent. Hope all goes well as you discover new ways to do things.

Glad to hear it wasn't worse. Really sucks about the 8 string. I would think that would be hard to overcome. Just guessing as I can't play a lick. I did stab my left index finger a few years ago leaving the side of it numb. I shoot left handed and was really worried about it. Enough feeling has come back that I do not notice it much.

Rob I don’t know you and I am new to the Busse forum. last year I lost a third of my ring finger on my left hand ( I’m left handed) and make my living with my hands I’m a Mechanic. It took some time but I have not found anything that I can’t do. I wish you the best in your recovery. Greg

So sorry to hear about the loss of your finger Rob. :( I know you will adjust and overcome this injury in no time. My prayers are with you buddy!

Hi all,

Firstly - Holy crap!!! Thank you all for your well wishes, prayers, good jujus, positive vibes and lovely sentiments. I'm overwhelmed by the kindness shown by you all. It's very much appreciated.

I only just got home from hopsital today and finally have a chance to reply. I saw this thread whilst floating on the opium cloud in hospital and thought it best to write a reply when I got home haha!! :D

So, long story short - Sorry (and glad at the same time) that it's not a knife related injury.

Jerry mentioned life altering accident and he couldn't have put it any clearer. As many of you know, I am one of those arty farty types - musician, artist, designer, vfx artist etc - and I make my living from it all. One of the biggest and fondest parts of my life is playing the guitar. I now have a massive road ahead of rehabilitation and recovery. I plan on continuing playing music, but will have to essentially relearn and adjust everything to suit my 3 fingered left hand. And on an 8 string guitar too! Yikes!!

Thanks again for all of your lovely sentiments, they really mean a lot to me. I am so glad and privileged to be a part of this wonderful community.

Hopefully I'll have some knife action to share with you all in the not too distant future!!!

Lots of love to you all from myself and Karen.
Rob, hope you are feeling better. My late grandfather had an auto repair shop in the 60s and had a pneumatic grease gun rebuilt by a local repair shop. Plugged it in and went to squirt a little grease into a rag in his palm to make sure the gun was working and blew a hole into his palm and filled his hand with grease! Apparently the repair shop had left a seal out of it. I always thought that was a really odd injury but apparently not in light of yours! I guess he was squeezing grease out of a drain in his hand for weeks!

Hang in there and I hope you are back on your guitar in no time! I try to play myself and suspect that you’ll be better than me even sans one finger!

I wish you a speedy recovery and as talented as you are I'm sure this will only be a small bump in the road. I have always wanted to meet you, maybe at blade someday I will get a chance to buy you a drink.

Dang Rob sorry to hear this! That’s a horrible way to lose a finger! You’re tough though. Good on you for the positive attitued even if it is mostly for our sake lol.

Thought about switch hitting on the guitar or are you like me, the opposite of ambidextrous? What about taking your talents to a bass guitar? I’m sure you’ve already thought of every option already.

I had to go to the ER with a severed nerve 8n my right hand thumb. Dr's first question was if I ever had to use my right hand again for work. I told him it is just my spacebar thumb when I'm typing... little did I know how much a right handed person does, in fact use his right thumb.... when it healed, I had to learn a few things anew (it also turned out to be the thumb that works the safety, slide and mag release on my guns).

Now, 10 years later, I have most of the feeling back (though I do still drop stuff from time to time, and swinging a sword, axe, bat or other tool occasionally gives the nerve a jolt).

My initial thought, when I heard the news, was that you had lopped off a hand playing choppy chop in the yard!!
I instantly thought of your guitar playing.

Hopefully it all works out, and you are back to plucking and strumming again.

I was praying it wasn't a chainsaw or tree felling accident!

I'm so happy to hear your home and starting to heal!
You're a "Can Do" guy Rob, and I know you'll get this sorted.
