Thoughts And Prayers For Our Dear Friend Rob Stanley. . . .

Glad it wasn't worse! I actually wish it would have been knife related vs paint gun. There would have been a chance for reattachment.

That said, with your talent, there is no doubt you'll overcome this hurdle.

I'm glad to hear the positive, upbeat vibe of your post Rob. And soooo glad this wasn't worse as I had feared. All the best to you and Karen!

First day back at normality today. I won't lie, it's going to be f@*ken hard.

Hi all,

Firstly - Holy crap!!! Thank you all for your well wishes, prayers, good jujus, positive vibes and lovely sentiments. I'm overwhelmed by the kindness shown by you all. It's very much appreciated.

I only just got home from hopsital today and finally have a chance to reply. I saw this thread whilst floating on the opium cloud in hospital and thought it best to write a reply when I got home haha!! :D

So, long story short - Sorry (and glad at the same time) that it's not a knife related injury. I was cleaning a spraypaint gun and it blew a hole in my left index finger and injected a ton of paint into my finger and hand. After 3 surgeries to try and clean it out, I ended up having the finger amputated. Lesson learned - Dulux Weathershield Roof & Trim is not meant to be inside you.

Jerry mentioned life altering accident and he couldn't have put it any clearer. As many of you know, I am one of those arty farty types - musician, artist, designer, vfx artist etc - and I make my living from it all. One of the biggest and fondest parts of my life is playing the guitar. I now have a massive road ahead of rehabilitation and recovery. I plan on continuing playing music, but will have to essentially relearn and adjust everything to suit my 3 fingered left hand. And on an 8 string guitar too! Yikes!!

Thanks again for all of your lovely sentiments, they really mean a lot to me. I am so glad and privileged to be a part of this wonderful community.

Hopefully I'll have some knife action to share with you all in the not too distant future!!!

Lots of love to you all from myself and Karen.

Glad to hear it wasnt more serious.

As for the guitar and other instruments - Django Reinhardt and Tony Iommi come to mind, this could be a blessing in disguise :D

Thank goodness Rob, I was so worried it was much worse than that. It's going to take some readjusting but at least it's not your knife holding hand :D I"ve watched your youtube videos, I know your a righty :). Keep on keepin on Rob.

Hey Rob,

I am glad to hear it wasn’t worse that it was, although that sure is serious enough. I know with your passion for music, especially, it is going to be very difficult at times to adjust to not being able to do the same things as you used to, or not being able to do things in the same way... but always remember that different isn’t lesser, it’s just... different! Ok, enough with the advice, just feel better!

I have not posted in a while, but still keep up around here. Rob, sorry to hear about this new challenge, but I know that you will overcome it. Stay artsy and keep posting!

I am so glad to see that you have exactly the attitude that I would have expected. I know we only have met in passing at Blade, but I consider my internet friends just as much friends as any local friends.

I know you will overcome - you know Jerry Garcia lost part of a finger in a wood chopping incident as a child, and Tony Iommi played with two prosthetic fingertips after a machine shop accident at 17.

Prayers for a healthy recovery from the injury.

best

mqqn

Rob, you should ask Jerry to pull the strings!
I mean he should be able to get you a half-a-Smipsons-character privileges and get you on Simpsons!

Very sorry to hear this.

One of my favorite artists, Frank Frezetta, now deceased, had suffered a stroke and lost the use of "strong" hand..learned to use his opposite w/ great success..

Different senerio, I understand...point being that spirit, mindset/attitude and good, loving people around you can make all the difference..From the little I know of you..seems you are strong on all points..plus, you Aussie's are a pretty tough bunch.

Prayers, smoke and much respect sent..

Oh, if you could take some vids of scaring the snot out if some kids...it would be most appreciated :)

Ho - ly - $hit!!...:eek::poop:
I'm so sorry my friend,
But so long as it wasnt your thumb or middle finger..you need the thumb to hold the guitar..and you need your middle finger in heavy traffic.

And sounds like your knife swinging hand is in good order... your good:D
