Thoughts and questions on my new Strider SMF CC

Now you are talking! It is supposed to be a new knife and you are the one who should decide if you want to put marks on it or keep it new!:thumbup:

Yeah tell them you want one that wasn't thrown across the room on the floor or whatever happened to it. ;)

Lol! You guys are a trip...i left a message. We'll see if they call.

Man, this SMF is friggin solid...opens smooth, nice loud clack when it locks up.

I saw a thread somewhere where a guy had polished the titanium side with some sand paper and polish....any ideas on doing this?

Don't pimp your knife at all, it will not make Strider happy and it will void your warranty.

They don't like pimpers at all.

LOL!!!

One other thing i noticed....on the blade stop pins, it's black on the ti side and silver on the g10 side....normal???

I just got my SMF a few weeks ago from True North Knives. It's flawless. I totally love it. If I were you I would send it back ASAP and ask for a new one. At this price range, don't settle for less than perfection.Strider or not, a brand new knife should never be sold that way.

I agree that was likely done after it left the MFG - getting a replacement is a good move . . . Strider can have a "machined" appearance in some of their metal finishing but I have never seen a G10 scale scratched like that on any new knife, Strider or not. Not from the MFG at least.

Cosmetic or not, it's a $550 knife if you bought it new . . .

What's weird to me is the blade is leaning towards the locking side of the handle. All of the liner and frame locks I own can be tightened up pulling the blade centered but not past center toward the lock and still open easily. Maybe it has a really crappy grind. The scratch wouldn't bother me that much you can wipe some oil or wd-40 on it. Anyways, I would return it. My SnG has a slightly off centered blade and honestly it doesn't bother me a bit but yours looks pretty bad. I'm sure it will function fine but you did spend $500+

The scratches look alot more defined in the pics, then just holding the knife and looking at it. I always use a flourescent light above the pics i take of my knives, because it really shows them well. I'm sure i can live with it, because i do intend to edc it for as long as it takes to get something else in my pocket:), and i know it's just a short time before it gets scuffed up.

The blade being off really sucks, and i want it right. I had the owner of the company i bought it from call me tonight, but missed his call, so that's good he called. He left a message saying he would call tmrw.

I spent $550 + $25 shipping:eek: for this son of a bitch!!!!

BUT.....this being my first STRIDER....WOW...it's friggin bad ass..

I wouldn't accept the scratches on the G10 or that off blade centering. I would be pissed at the dealer for sending me that knife. I would definitely contact them about the issue. I understand Strider may not baby their knives, but I can't see them sending that out. I bought my first Strider last month and it was dang near perfect...I was very impressed.

Just talked to the guy(dealer) who sold me the knife.

He was very adamant that there was nothing wrong with the knife, and that he "hand selected and inspected it" Went on and on about how he was the largest Strider dealer, and that if he receives a dinged up knife, he sends it back to Strider. I asked him if mine was a return from another customer that he tried to resell, and he said that they only sell "new knives"

When the scratch on the g-10 was brought up, he kind of had the attitude like, "are you kidding" with a slight exasperated voice. Went on to tell me that it was a Strider, and it's the end all hard use knife, so a scratch is kinda moot. When asked about the blade centering, he asked, "well, is it really bad?" Also said something about alot of Strider haters on Blade Forums.

In his defense...he said i COULD send it back for an exchange, but gave me the sense that it would be ridiculous. I'm sure he deals with people being overly obsessed with their knives, but i was a little dissapointed that i got the whole, "your knife is fine spiel, get over it"

Just send it back to him and get another one.

None of mine looked anything like that one and I had one just like the knife you got.

What dealer was it, I have gotten mine from Blue Line Gear, Knife Art and the last one from Strider directly.

What a jerk, the guy knows nothing of customer service. Atleast if he would have given you the benefit of the doubt. The attitude is what would be a deal breaker for me, it's a Strider, the blah, blah of knives. Don't accept that insulting demeanor from a seller. Where'd that knife come from?

I didn't want to say on here in case i got flamed for it, or a mod coming in here making noise.

You won't have a problem here, most of the guys who posted in this thread are Strider owners.

Alrighty then....

TNK

When i was filling out all my cc info and mailing address when i ordered it, i almost left a comment in the "ordering comments" section, saying something to the fact like, "please pick a good one with centered blade etc...." but i thought that might have been kinda dick, so i didn't. Figured it is a reputable dealer, and that was always the norm.
