Thoughts and questions on my new Strider SMF CC

I didn't want to say on here in case i got flamed for it, or a mod coming in here making noise.

If it does not get resolved to your satifaction start a thread in the Feedback forum. I would be upset if I were in your shoes, spend that kind of money and get something less than what would be reasonably expected. If the knife is going to get scratches, at least let me put them on there, not something already beat up.

exactly...good point

I contacted Mick Strider and Josh Directly about this thread and what happened, this is something they needed to know about. ;)

I've bought a couple of knives from TNK....not Striders thou.

I 've never had a problem either. This doesn't sound like something the owner, we all know, would say to a customer if he wants to have repeat business from you. Maybe he

doesn't to send it back and hassle with Strider. This doesn't sound like something the person I've dealt with would say....if he looked(even) at the knife.

I personally think thats unacceptable. I would send it back and get a new one. A knife like that shouldn't have those problems.

I agree, a $500 pocket knife should be flawless upon receiving it.

There aren't really any flawless knives, but this one shouldn't have had scratches on it and the blade should have been close to centered.

If one looks hard enough there will always be something with any knife.

I doubt that it was checked before it was shipped out to the OP.

Was it shipped with some rocks in the box, if not then it wasn't checked because that scratch shouldn't be there.

Looks like someone was playing with it before it was purchased and either dropped it or something else happened.

Honestly with that guys attitude on a $550 knife, I'd see about getting a refund and purchasing from someone else...

I have also bought knives on 2 occassions fron TNK, both times the knives have been perfect. The transaction was excellent both times. I was not expecting the OP to mention that particular vendor, there has been nothing but good from them. I am pretty sure that the problem will be resolved, knowing now who the seller is. Chalk this one up to be the exception to the rule.

Anything can happen, nobody is perfect, but I really doubt it was checked before shipment for it to look like that.

I have owned 4 Strider SmF's, 2 CC vers and none have looked like that.

Never seen one that was new or even pretty new that looked like that one.

Well let me back up a little. I went to the TNK web site and sent him an email last night with my name, brief description, and a link to this thread so he could see the pics. He tried to call me last night around 8pm, and i missed his call cause i was putting my son to bed...i appreciated the call.

When i called him this am, he was like, "oh, your the guy on Blade Forums?",(not sure if he even looked at the link, but i'm guessing he did) and we started to talk over the whole ordeal. I think he might have been a little turned off with everyone on here saying, "send it back" etc... maybe that's why he barked at me about all the things i said above. I'm not defending the guy, because he should have said "yeah, no problem, our mistake, send it in, well send you out a new one", and that would have been the end of it.

Will i ever buy from them again? Maybe. But i will make some calls over there before hand and try to get pics sent, verbal description over the phone etc..If that's too much for them, i'll go to their competitor...AND pay more with no problem, if i get better service

Well Most of us that posted here in this thread are Strider owners so we do know what to expect when we get a new Strider.

We don't expect to have it come with scratches on it that's for sure.

Just because we are here on BF doesn't mean we hate Strider, there are a lot of Strider owners here on BF, a lot of them. ;)

Alrighty then....

TNK

When i was filling out all my cc info and mailing address when i ordered it, i almost left a comment in the "ordering comments" section, saying something to the fact like, "please pick a good one with centered blade etc...." but i thought that might have been kinda dick, so i didn't. Figured it is a reputable dealer, and that was always the norm.

This was an expensive purchase and you're not happy with what you received (and you're not being unreasonable). I have two Strider knives and I would not be happy if I received the SMF you got. Send it back and tell the dealer to check the knife before re-shipping it.

I would ask to talk to the owner! I would tell him that if I am not going to get treated any better than that then I would get a FULL REFUND and buy it somewhere else. I bet you will get what you want. I would not keep that knife. You would never catch Andrew Demko or Rick Hinderer sending you a $500 knife that looks like that!! Good Luck! Kevin

You won't get one sent by Mick Strider or Josh that looks like that either.

I wouldnt accept it with a scratched scale like that.... uh uh no way. The blade centering is another story. I just got a new SMF and I consider it to be pretty darn perfect. I couldnt find anything to wail about anyway... ;)

Striders are good knives. TNK is disappointing me if they don't treat a $550 knife purchase as a "special" knife purchase. Buying an SMF CC is not a typical knife purchase. TNK, along with the other well known Strider dealers are always where I go first when I'm looking at Striders so I'll be watching the results of this situation closely because I'm sure I'll be buying another Strider in the next year or less. I intend to buy from a dealer who responds to my honest and legitimate problem.

I agree! They would not sell many knives if they all looked like that. You know the old saying You get what you pay for, well being a $500 knife You Didnt. Good Luck. Kevin
