Thoughts on logos and maker's marks (Criticism needed)

Lots of good advice here.
Love the design of post 98 like the others have said.
Maybe put the text at the top though?

I'm a big fan of basic logos and ones you don't have to think wtf it actually says.

Also if you do go with some sort of logo without text add the VALDYR to the spine of the knife.

I think the wolf logo on the blade and VALDYR etched into the top of the spine would be Slick. I love it when makers do that but that is probably another added cost. just a thought o_O

One thing to consider is how big the actual logo and type are going to be on the knife.
The one in the post #98 won't probably work if it is scaled to a quarter inch, particularly the letters.

Wolf head alone should work.

Yes just like that lone Butterfly works or that R inside of a C

I agree with most of the responses so far, simple is best.

Word art, using runes/3 A’s/V can work but don’t depend on people “getting” the full-meaning right away (or ever), treat it like the “hidden arrow” FedEx...like a bonus item for those who are interested, and simply a symbol for the casual viewer.

Quick sight recognition is most important, if you can develop a symbol that conveys your idea AND name you’re laughing, but at the very least you want it to be quickly recognizable.

As for name logos, they’re ok, but unless you already have market following they don’t convey much and aren’t terribly memorable. John’s Knives vs. Ken’s Knives vs Steve’s Knives vs. Sue’s knives etc.

Also, keep in mind that word based logos are lost on people that use a different alphabet or language I.e. - Russian, Asian, Middle Eastern. You could call yourself Bacon & Eggs Forge and wouldn’t make a lick of sense to anyone who doesn’t read English, but if you stamp a pic of a cast iron skillet with two sunny side up eggs and heat lines on your knife it makes a connection...not sure WHAT that connection would be but I think you see what I’m getting at...

I’ve heard Spyderco triangle is an on board illuminati sign and I believe it. Why would the triangle be necessary anyway? Many weapons companies are tyed to the military industrial complex money machine. It’s a shame how companies sucom to it. I wonder who the silent partnership is with Spyderco. If you think the Glessers are sole owners , I have some beach front property in Colorado you can have for free. To many holes in their story of how they got as big as they are today. Benchmade as well. Both companies are too tyed to the M.I.C. to be believed stories about how they got big. I remember when both were tiny and then both wrapped them selves around the M.I.C. and got big. That’s all you need to know. They played ball and they big. PERIOD!!!

You sure of that? Seems like it might be a stretch.

A different direction: Criticize please.

It's OK but if you say wolf I think pawprint.

Kinda looks like a shadow puppet coyote or a cartoon fox.
I agree....but....

Shadow puppet....illuminati front...maybe it's intentional?

Joking aside, I saw the hand shadow puppet thing immediately. I do like the hard angles though. I've got a couple mockups that I prefer. The paw idea is something I've been considering.

The fox look would probably be an issue for Fox Knives. Even if it's not the same they may object. Any kind of canid head might be an issue. The paw could have been snagged by someone else too.

I've considered this and researched the details that make a trademark. I had a front-on wolf's head drafted and dropped due to similarities to the Shiro bear. This stuff is tricky. Several makers use animal paws as marks, but organic/vs geometric makes a big difference, both in brand identity/
perception and legality.

Hmmmmm you may be on to something there...

...by the way has everyone seen my new maker's mark?

Containment team dispatched to post 108. Yes sir, one of the test subjects escaped and is talking about initiative 23. The whole area will be sanitized, something about weather balloons reflecting the light of Mars will be the official excuse. No sir, it will not happen again...
