Thoughts on Spyderco's "blurple" G10

It is purple. It is a fabulous color for rainbows and fairies and gumdrops and special snowflakes -but not for folding knives, in my opinion.

Paul Hogan saw it and said "that's not a knoife".

It's just a color. To the untrained eye of a regular joe:

Black looks scary.

Cammo looks dangerous.

I know lots of regular joes with untrained eyes, and...not a one of them thinks black looks scary or camo looks dangerous(most of them think it looks rather silly).

I can't stand colorful knives. To me bright colors makes it seem like a cheap little happy meal kids toy. I like either black scales, metal handles or wood handles nothing blue or orange

I have the PM2 and the Manix in blurple. The color is great.....totally sick of black scales and silver blades.
The builds on both knives is fantastic!
In regards to perm loctite on the screws??? Not my PM2. I dropped it and scratched up both scales. I put a pair of Putman scales on it and had no issues taking the knife apart.

Note: I am colorblind so pictures or detailed descriptions of what colors you think it is a combo of aren't too useful to me; the way my eyes perceive it I could go either way.

I am red/green colorblind as well, and it just looks purple to me, or at least what I perceive to be purple. Who knows what it really looks like? :) Regardless, I would prefer that it looked more blue.

It's funny Knave, it looks different in certain types of light! I'm one who really likes it.

I tried for a while but I couldn't get with the blurple. Just not for me.

So I did this:

That knife looks awesome, how did you get the finish on that clip? It looks like when I flame clips with a blowtorch but I get more of a matte finish.

DPC, that is one hell of a PM2 collection! I am certainly jealous!

Atakdog, two things. First, to me, the blurple is an awesome color. I love blue and purple, so I love that color. It is definitely more blue to me, so don't worry that it's a girly purple color (I know you can't tell being colorblind). No one will judge you for having this color of knife, if that's what you're worried about.

Second, I recently did some research into colorblindness, after learning a good friend is colorblind. I sympathize with you, man. Those of us with normal vision take colors for granted. I watched some videos and saw some pictures that are supposed to approximate what someone with colorblindness sees. It's very drab by comparison. Have you ever heard of EnChroma glasses? They are glasses/sunglasses that allow people with colorblindness to see colors, including purple. There are lots of videos on YouTube of people trying them out, some without prior knowledge of what they were doing (surprises from other people who didn't tell them what was about to happen).

It is pretty profound watching people see colors for the first time, especially purple. Apparently purple is one of the colors most affected by colorblindness. It's pretty amazing to see colorblind people see purple for the first time. It absolutely blows their mind, with many of them breaking down into tears. That is what made me go off on this tangent. If you haven't ever tried those glasses, they might be worth looking into. I think they are around $200-400, and if you don't see purple, they may make you love these blurple knives even more. Sorry for going off topic.

I hope this is kosher to post a video link. If not, let me know and I'll remove it. Here are some videos of people seeing color for the first time:

Yeah from pictures the color looks ok to me. I know the type of people on this forum that have knife collections like a wide variety of colors, but like you said I didn't want something that looked odd to my non-knife collector friends.

I have heard of those glasses. I don't find the need to buy a pair since my vision functions perfectly well in 99% of daily life, but it would be cool to try.

I like the color, but am not interested in the steel. I wish they had chosen a steel that was a little easier to sharpen, but plenty here seem to like it.

Blasphemy! Everything should be purple. Or at least be available in purple as an option.

To be clear, the screws aren't protected Torx, it is the type of T8 bit that I had on a multi set, this guy here:

Just demonstrating how much force I used only to have the tip snap off. They are really on there good. I too hope this is not the future of Spyderco as I like being able to disassemble my knives.
I would also like to point out that you should never use protected torx drivers on regular torx fasteners. That probably had something to do with why they broke as well. Without the metal pin(protection) supporting the splines, they break fairly easily. Especially with a cheap set/driver.

I can understand why you wouldn't be into the steel but I'm in the majority that is buying the knife for the steel. I have the equipment to sharpen it and sharpen all of my knives so that the micro-bevel can be touched up in a few minutes on a Sharpmaker.

I have a few blades in s110v. It is not really that tough to sharpen unless you let it get DULL!! I touch them up frequently and have no issues keeping them wicked sharp!
It's a lot easier to sharpen than ZDP-189. Got a William Henry off the Exchange that couldn't cut butter......I really don't want to go through that again with a Sharpmaker!!! Dam!!

I've been touching mine up on a Sharpmaker / strop with great results.

Really enjoying the steel; it does hold a keen edge.

Eventually when I reprofile it, I'll need something more robust. I think I see a Wicked Edge in my future ...
