thoughts on strider SNG!

It is the Kool Aid I thought I was typing UKPK and the rattle is from the frame lock not going into place tight enough.

Any chance of a pic mate !!

That's the same one I'm looking at getting (with stonewash blade)

Heres mine with some friends:

cool pics - thanks for sharing !

that gunner finish looks really cool. The SNG actually reminds me of a sort of Alien knife - like something those big metal things in the fifth element would carry !

Mine arrived today (absolute gent sent it to me to look over to make sure I like - I REALLY REALLY LIKE IT)

I think I have found the perfect folder for me !!

everything about it is perfect for me, one thing that surprised me is that it feel really light, lighter than a sebenza which I now think is heavy !

The gunner grips are cool and really grippy, grinds are great, knife is like a little laser (it looked at a plastic bag containing a krimbo pressie which needs wrapping and sliced it open), movement is sweet with a very nice sound, blade has no play and is dead on centre... I could go and on ! It's mint too !! I really lucked out and the guy I'm doing the deal with made it all possible - legend !!

I really am chuffed to bits, this one is to replace my grandfathers pocket watch which was given to him for 25 years of service in the Irish Garda. Not quite a pocket watch but the insurance claim money will never replace the sentimental value and I thought I'd get something I could hand down to my son (working on that) and tell him the story.

chuffed to bits

Be careful using that king of offensive language around here, actually nevermind... too late... I'm already offended.:D:p:p Congrats on the score! Looks like a handy little blade.

I think some of them are funny too - I'm what they call a foreigner and get a lot of amusement from some of the stuff that comes out of people's mouths. The profanities are the funniest !!

Guess I'm picking it up !

Youll notice the regular SNG, not the gunner grips version, has a little more weight and size to it. Not much but a little more. Either version for me is the perfect size folder.

As far as the design complaint on the lanyard hole, the solution is to only loop the paracord through the G-10 side. No cutting issues and it will hang more to the outside when clipped in the front pocket.

I'll stick with the Rat Trap, Spydie Mil and Spydie Para Mil. After those I go for a fixed blade.

Well, between the SnG, Sebbie, and XM-18, here are my thoughts:

My SnG is a great knife, and after thinning out the profile a little bit, it's a superb slicer. I carried it quite a bit until it delveloped some sloppiness in the lockup. (Still need to sent it to the spa). After carrying a Sebbie, the SnG also feels a little big for carry. Due to the lockup issue and heftiness of the SnG, it usually gets left behind for the Sebenza.

The XM-18 is a fantasitic knife, no doubt about it. The thing about the XM (for me) is that it's even heavier than the SnG, making pocket carry even less desireable. The blade is also a little thick for my taste, and I found that after carrying it and handling it for a while, the handle shape was a turn off for me. I have a habit of flipping and manipulating blades around, and I found the ice pick grip to be most uncomfortable.

The Sebenza will forever be a mainstay for me. All hype and fanboys aside, I feel the Sebenza to be one of the most comfortable knives I've had the pleasure to own. As many times as I've opened and closed it, the lockup still feels the same now as it did when it was brand new. I have a small classic, and for pocket carry, it's perfect. Thin profile and lighter than the others. It doesn't feel like it's in the way when I reach in my pocket like the others. I use it almost exclusively every day, and it barely looks worn.

The only issues I have with the Sebenza are these: I was worried the thin blade wouldn't be that strong for EDC and would be prone to chipping. So far to say, I haven't had any problems with that. The only other gripe is the pocket clip. I'm a fan of the older style. I find the newer style with the bump in the middle eats my pockets up rather quickly.

I try not to choose favorites, and I like trying out different knives for edc, but the one that constantly finds it way into my pocket is the Sebbie. I'm still looking for someone to unseat it and hoping the Busse folder will be the one to do it. As much as I like the Rat Trap, I hope Busse scales the folder down in size a little. Large knives are great, but are harder for a lot of people to carry and justify in the workplace. I find the size of the small sebenza to be just about the perfect size for an EDC blade.

+1 on all you said Dan:thumbup:

The drop in the XM-18 handle is not that good for most cutting task...great for a push cut's, but thats about it. The straight handle of the Striders and Sebenza's gives you a good purchace on any type of cut.

Like you, my Sebbie's will always be my everyday EDC's untill something better comes along...which may be never. I carry the small micarta on most days and can hardly tell its there. Plenty of room left to put my hand in pocket without scraping back of hand.

And thanks again for the XM-18 pass around last year....I was about to order one, so you saved me some money:p

Great minds think alike Kenny. :D It was my pleasure to let you and everyone else check out the XM in the pass around. I'm glad to know that it helped in your decision to buy or not to buy.

I do think that a knife (any knife) with a handle shape similar to the sebenza would make for a very comfortable knife. I've had the chance to hold some very nice coffin jacks, and I really think the handle shape is universaly comfortable. (If that makes sense)

I really like the micarts sebbies and am sure I have a nice spot picked out for one in my collection.
