Any new run of pink Delicas should be in plain edge, since the last run was (from what I've heard) all serrated.
Plus, plain edge does not gather the "oh mys" so much as the all serrated version, IMO. I've shown my pink Delicas around and the color does not quite cancel out the "teeth."
I have two of the '98s in pink. It would be good to have the newer "fence" design to reduce clip rotation.
I still think for economic reasons, the "Breast Cancer Awareness" (BCA) knife would be best done in the Ladybug version. Cheaper to buy and less intimidating to many "non-knife" folks. I really like the matching pink "ribbon lanyard" idea.
This could be an entirely new way to get knives into the hands of those who wouldn't have thought of them as everyday tools. Using the ribbon and maybe a clothing clip arrangement would also get the whole knife out in the open for all to view. Instead of representing "weapons" the little pink Ladybugs would represent Breast Cancer Awareness, thus instantly legitimizing their presence and intercepting any criticism. They would also function as handy tools for the odd cutting jobs people encounter.
If the pink Ladybug does well on all accounts, perhaps the "BCA" knife could be done each year in a different style to raise funds & awareness, and to help satisfy the enormously greedy hunger of we, the knifeknuts!
This could have the benefits of TWO "consciousness raising activities": breast cancer awareness and knives as socially acceptable EDC tools.
If it works. The program could be tricky and we would need to really put our "best foot forward" as it were.
Is this doable?
I know Spyderco has already done some similar work on the D'Allara and WTC knives, as well as sending knives to the WTC workers and to Afghanistan. Sal, what are any learning points or experiences with these other projects that you have found?
