TwoSun knives.

I’ve purchased both the TS27-BK and TS16-G10. Both were purchased for for about a Jackson. They are made in Yangjiang, China.
First things first...these aren’t your normal gas station Chinese knives. In my opinion the price/quality ratio is off the charts. My initial impressions are very favorable. I’ve spent a whole lot more money on knives that were not made half as well as these.

I received the 27 first. The detent is medium, not weak and not too stiff. The KVT ball bearing action is fast and smooth. The design is comfortable in hand and in use. Lock up is about 40% and the blade is centered. No blade play. The pocket clip is tight and works well, I just wish it rode lower in the pocket. The knife arrived dull and I had to sharpen it. I’ve not used it enough to see if the “D2” holds an edge.

I then received the 16. The detent is very stiff. The KVT ball bearing action is quick and smooth. The design is comfortable and reminds me of the Benchmade 940, but a little bit bigger. The machined G-10 scales are attractive, however the machining on the G-10 and the tight pocket clip makes it kind of a pain going in and out of the pocket. Same style clip as the 27. Lockup is about 33% and the blade is centered. No blade play. The knife arrived sharp.

Both knives have polished SS liners which is a nice touch.
Both knives are Night Morning Designs for whatever that’s worth.
Both knives were shipped in a tight plastic wrap with a lot of oil in a very basic, no frills box with the manufacturers name.

Keep in mind I have not given the “D2” steel a proper testing, but I feel that a knife of this quality, if made in the USA, would run around $150-$300. And that’s me being honest. These knives are definitely quality made.

Being as both of these G-10 knives ran about $20, I figured I’d give one of their TC4 titanium models a go. I have the TS07 on the way and I’ll post here once received.

So...anybody else want to post their thoughts on these knives?

I’m not sure about the quality but the designs look like they were done by an alien who was trying to imagine what a knife is supposed to look like.

I find alot of these Chinese designs are overdesigned to try and make a flashy knife that catches your eye. That’s fine as long as the knife looks cool and more importantly is comfortable but I find they often are not. (Though I have no personal experience with twosun.)

If we look at many knives that are beloved they are much simpler. It is actually hard to design a knife and make it beautiful and simple.

But I’m glad if you like them!

My thoughts would mimic yours Lapedog...had I not actually purchased these TwoSun knives.

I agree most of the designs look alien.
And I also agree that most of the designs look overly designed.
I also agree that most beloved designs are simpler.

These two that I purchased however are comfortable and very, very well designed and machined.

They seem somewhat shady in their business practices but there are worse offenders out there. (Something about a design they stole from a designer they actually worked with, I don't recall the particulars) Aside from that if you like the designs they seem good value for money.

They sure learned how to make good knives on the cheap in China.

Some of their designs are getting quite good too. The Chinese knife market is really coming of age.

I like TwoSun, specifically their Night Morning designs. Funky but surprisingly smartly designed and executed. I've heard their QC is spotty, but all of the ones I've owned or handled were good, punching above their weight class. I just wish they would realize you can make knives with stock thinner than 3.5mm, with reasonable stock thickness they could be some seriously high bang for the buck knives.

I'll never buy a twosun. Seen too much drama about different topics on them and designs are pretty bad. The few designed to look good don't perform well as knives that you use to cut things.

They did at one point have steel and ht problems but since worked out. They recently had cloners stealing makers designs.ans also fair amount of clones made in the factory. They also re brand different knives so it looked like there brand was being cloned too. Just a mess of a so called company if you ask me.

I’m curious to see what others think of these knives...
I’ve purchased both the TS27-BK and TS16-G10. Both were purchased for for about a Jackson. They are made in Yangjiang, China and sold out of Guang Dong.

Just to be accurate, Yangjiang is a city which is located in Guangdong Province. Sort of like saying made in San Francisco and sold out of California.

Thanks.
Edited the OP after showing off some of my geographical ignorance. :D

I like a couple of their designs, but like most if these Chinese brands their knives lose whatever ground they made up in the value department by using blade stock that's far too thick and then not grinding thin enough behind the edge. I keep a splitting maul in the garage... I don't need one in my pocket.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on these knives with us. I would be interested to see what your thoughts are in the future, if you use them for much more than opening the mail. I'm curious to see how they perform, how the edge holds up in actual use and your thoughts on the ergonomics after using them for a period of time.

I’ve purchased both the TS27-BK and TS16-G10 from the Bay, which I believe is the only way to buy from the manufacturer. Both were purchased for for about a Jackson. They are made in Yangjiang, China.

I think they are made in China, and that is about all I can say about them specifically. I don't buy made in China if I can possibly help it. I refuse to support their economy. I also try to give preference to companies that do not have any manufacture in China.

I understand you thought process here, but man are you missing out on some great blades. Reate and WE are far superior to a lot of the U.S. stuff. I don’t buy from the clone producing companies though.

Good point. I got to see some WE knives at BladeWest. They were impressive. And there were a lot of big names in the industry taking a look...

This might be a good time to mention...this thread wasn’t meant meant to be a US vs China thing.
It was meant to get thoughts on the knives from the company I bought from.
I buy and support US knifemakers 99% of the time. I bought these on a fluke and was pleasantly surprised. Just curious what other’s impressions are about these knives. I.E. others that have bought them and their thoughts/imressions.

I've got a Chinese made folder that has their D2 blade steel and it holds its edge impressively well. Fit and finish is impressive as well. Good quality knife for the money.

My thoughts exactly. In my experience, it’s one thing to have a favorable impression when it’s brand new, but quite another when after hours of use over a month or two, you still have that same view. I’d love to see both how well the knives hold up being used and also how the ergos line up with extended use.

*I have edited my posts to ommit the manufacturers name since they are not supporting members here on Bladeforums.

Manufacturer names are OK. Just don't state where you bought them if it was not from a site with a BF dealer membership.

I intend to let you all know.
As of now I have not put them through their paces, but I will certainly post when I do.
