Thoughts on TwoSun knives

That's not really how it works though, it's not TwoSun that set the trend of knockoff vendors using a variety of popular knife terms in their listings whether they apply to the knife or not. And any swinging Dick can sell knives on Amazon or wherever it was you were looking, it's far more of an indictment on them as a retail platform than anything else.
As a general rule, I avoid 3rd party sellers on the zon, especially if it's not prime.

Could be. However, if a company selling TwoSun is also dealing in counterfeits, it again sours my impression of company.

UPDATE: I was able to get in touch with TwoSun. They confirmed that the offending knife is not theirs and the listing has been reported.

White Mountain Knives have 7 pages with Open Box/Returns, mostly TS and other Chinese brands,
also some Cold Steel and Boker models, it's a great indication about the quality of the brands.

WMK is the only mainstream dealer (not Amazon or eBay) selling TwoSun AFAIK. He regularly posts returns at a discount with a note and I've seen them for lots of companies over the years.

People may return knives for lots of reasons, including not liking how they fit to their particular hand, the thickness of the blade, or they just plain feel like it. Sometimes, a "defect" will be something like a tiny cosmetic scratch and different people have different views on what should be returned or not. I've gotten straight-up lemons from a bunch of companies, from Artisan to Spyderco. It happens.

One thing I don't like about TwoSun is that they put detent ramps on all of their knives. That is a major plus to some people. I don't like it because of how I tend to close liner and frame locks. Ramps can cause a rebound where I would normally stop them before dropping. I personally wouldn't return something over that. I usually just learn to live with it or sell/trade them.

TwoSun knives.

I’ve purchased both the TS27-BK and TS16-G10. Both were purchased for for about a Jackson. They are made in Yangjiang, China.
First things first...these aren’t your normal gas station Chinese knives. In my opinion the price/quality ratio is off the charts. My initial impressions are very favorable. I’ve spent a whole lot more money on knives that were not made half as well as these.

I received the 27 first. The detent is medium, not weak and not too stiff. The KVT ball bearing action is fast and smooth. The design is comfortable in hand and in use. Lock up is about 40% and the blade is centered. No blade play. The pocket clip is tight and works well, I just wish it rode lower in the pocket. The knife arrived dull and I had to sharpen it. I’ve not used it enough to see if the “D2” holds an edge.

I then received the 16. The detent is very stiff. The KVT ball bearing action is quick and smooth. The design is comfortable and reminds me of the Benchmade 940, but a little bit bigger. The machined G-10 scales are attractive, however the machining on the G-10 and the tight pocket clip makes it kind of a pain going in and out of the pocket. Same style clip as the 27. Lockup is about 33% and the blade is centered. No blade play. The knife arrived sharp.

Both knives have polished SS liners which is a nice touch.
Both knives are Night Morning Designs for whatever that’s worth.
Both knives were shipped in a tight plastic wrap with a lot of oil in a very basic, no frills box with the manufacturers name.

Keep in mind I have not given the “D2” steel a proper testing, but I feel that a knife of this quality, if made in the USA, would run around $150-$300. And that’s me being honest. These knives are definitely quality made.

Being as both of these G-10 knives ran about $20, I figured I’d give one of their TC4 titanium models a go. I have the TS07 on the way and I’ll post here once received.

So...anybody else want to post their thoughts on these knives?
I have purchased a couple and really liked them. In my opinion, every bit as good as comparable model Benchmades for a lot less. People here get all bent out of shape cause its China. If we focus on the materials, the workmanship, the price, everything is pretty impressive. Their descriptions are accurate, they ship quick, the rest is customs..... what is there not to like? The question I have is are they still in business? I no longer see them for sale, I see re sellers, but not them directly....

I've had a bunch of TwoSun knives now. The machining and workmanship are generally very good. They have a lot of interesting designs and work with some cool designers.

In comparison with companies like Benchmade or Spyderco, there is one area where TwoSun might fall a little short. I haven't noticed it personally but my level of use is pretty casual. In some limited testing, TwoSun seems to fall in line with WE and some other Chinese companies that don't do as well with their heat treatments on super steels. Now, there have been widespread issues with heat treatments on M390/20CV from lots of companies from different countries. There have been a few subpar results on Benchmade knives too.

Whether it's something you'd ever notice will depend on the particulars, such as how well the individual knives in comparison were heat treated and exactly how you use them. For instance, do you cut hundreds of feet of cardboard, rope, etc. in a short period of time? Is this a work knife that is going to get used hard? If so, skip TwoSun and Benchmade and go right for a Spyderco. They seem to do a better job with greater consistency when it comes to super steels. If you need a slick titanium framelock for such purposes, save up for a Shirogorov. Otherwise, just get what you like and enjoy it.

As far as sellers, distribution in the United States is limited for TwoSun. White Mountain Knives carries some of their stuff. You can also find them on eBay.
