Three knives....

There are a lot of variations on the one (1) knife scenario on this forum, but none of us would ever be caught out in the woods without at least a couple knives. I guess what I want to see is what three blades you would carry into the woods, on either a survival camping trip or a real survival situation. Excuse my lack of elaboration on the situation, but I really just want to see the knives that you guys really carry in the woods and not this 1 knife stuff.

I always carry a Spyderco Endura and SAK huntsman. These two I carry all the time. Sometimes I may add a sturdy fixed blade but usually not.

My three are
1 - SAK soldier
2 - Buck/Stryder 889 or Spyderco Wegner
3 - BK-10
If I'm wearing my daypack I've got my CS kukri machete & gerber multi-tool also:D

SAK Explorer
Becker Necker
Mora (either the 780, or the stainless Clipper, depending on if I'll be near water...)

i always have a 3-4 in. fixed blade of some sort(usually one of these in the pic) and my benchmade mini-griptillian and a SAK camper.....:D

most likely
1) a overall 9-3/8" Non-serrated KA-BAR Fighting/Utility knife
2) a 112 folding Buck knife
3) a simple gerber multi-tool

i bring these when im camping, fishing and hunting in the boondocks of Maine and the northeast i use the KA-BAR the most

I never enter the woods without my swamp rat hrlm and a swiss champ. When I go to the "big woods" in northern Michigan, especially the upper peninsula, I also add my swamp rat ratweiler.

usually a vic farmer or leatherman wave as a multitool, a brkt mini-canadian or a fallkniven f1 as a fixed blade and a 12 inch ontario but more often now a fiskars sport axe as a chopper...

This thread basically describes a modern "Nessmuk trio." Here are mine whenever I go camping:

1. Victorinox Swisstool or Spirit

2. BRKT Northstar

3. decent but no-name Swedish hatchet

If I were backpacking, I'd leave the hatchet and Northstar behind and replace them with a Becker BK10 and BRKT Mini Canadian.

Hey Mtnfolk Mike - must be a Gene Ingram there, third from left? EDIT: The left is the hand that makes the L, right? I mean third from the right.

I have a Lacer from him and it's my favourite knife...gorgeous flat little cutting tool.

As far as this question goes, you know what three blades I would want in a REAL survival situation?

A little slicer - the usual four inch mora is fine for this
A 3/4 size axe
A 36 inch bow saw

The only thing you'd be a little wanting on would be prying but I just don't do a whole lot of prying myself. But man if you had a good axe, a good saw, and a good knife you would be equipped for pretty near any bush work.

If you also had a good large pot, a small one, and a cup you would be on your way past survival and into vacation!

3 blades? THE LUXURY! :)

Of my current equipment:
----
* Victorinox One handed trekker
* Buck Nighthawk
* CS Latin Machete

Hey Ken...

Thanks..
Will have to have you over some time to look at some knives...
Hope you have some time on your hands.. LOL

My knife drawers take a full day!! LOL

I dont want three knives with me in the woods. my choice would be swiss army one handed trekker, becker necker and a small hatchet. If I had to give up one I would give up the necker, keep the trekker and the hatchet.

On a real hardcore trip, of the ones I have here?

Hmmm.

Cattaragus 225Q for the heavy work.

Eriksson 510 for most chores.

Wenger Monarch for the "extras"!

The SAK will always be with me and for a larger knife capable of doing the heavier woodwork, it would have to be the Becker BK-7. The third knife would have several possibilities, but there are three that are likely to be used. Becker Necker, Eriksson 2000 and the Eriksson 711.
