Three Weapons and You're On Your Own

I think I'd take my Ithaca 12 gauge. It is flexible in what it does, lightweight, and shoots magnum or regular loads with great authority. Never jammed, never malfunctioned.

For a handgun, my trusty Glock 20, my 10mm Glock. It has a good magazine size and shoots high powered 10mm ammo. I am currently in love with DoubleTap Ammo and this stuff rocks.

For a knife, my 15" Sirupati at this point would be my choice as it chops well but is lightweight and easy to wield. But that's a toughy as I do love my pen knife that I just got (good one Dan), and my Cherokee Rose is amazing, and so is my Seax, and so is my 16.5" BAS.

Well, good thread, but in a real world scenario there is no reason why you would ever limit yourself to just one blade, not would you have to. Guns, sure.

Mine would be:

Colt 5" series '70 1911 .45
Bushmaster Dissipator 16" AR-15 with original telestock in place.
16.5" Antler Chiruwa AK (in knifeware sheath with Ken Warner Grunt in outside pocket of sheath.)

Randall 2-8 dagger in upside down carry shoulder sheath.
Russell scout knife in pocket.

Thanks,

Norm

Dang, Swashtar, that's a lot of knives!

Hey Munk! (BTW, it's "Svashtar", with a "V", or just "Norm" will do. Wouldn't have even mentioned it but this is the 3rd or 4th time, and finally figured you just had it wired wrong as opposed to simple typos. Thanks. )

My logic was to figure the Chiruwa AK for chopping, all round use and back up defense. The Grunt is an excellent little camp knife. Compact, convex edge, razor sharp and 5" blade. Since it's on the same sheath there is nothing extra to carry, and a 5" convex edge is at times a lot more useful than a 12" one!

The Randall dagger is a fighting knife pure and simple, when you don't want to carry a big blade or would need to crawl around without a 28 oz. knife flopping around on your belt or shoulder strap. The pocketknife is just a small jigged bone 4-bladed scout knife, although with very good 154CM steel, for opening cans, small chores, etc. Probably didn't have to even be mentioned.

Regards,

Norm

Hard choice between my Remmy 1200 or an AK for a long gun. Not much of a chance for a really long shot that a full .308 or 30-06 makes possible.

Glock 23 for pistol

BGR or New Model for kuk. Hard to choose, probably come down to specifics and just gut feelings.

Norm,
I do stuff like that all the time. It's my brain. I even look up words I've looked up about 10,000 times. There are mistakes when I can't visualize or sound it out. See? I was afraid I couldn't spell 'phonetics' so I swapped, 'sound it out' in it's place. I'd been saying "SS VASH TAR" in order to spell it. (I have no idea what it is supposed to sound like but that's how I did it.) As a child, I had a high IQ, stuttered, ADHD, and was probably dyslexic to boot, but who's counting?
Somehow, a 'w' replaced the 'V' and your identity was crushed beyond understanding and recognition. I guess I could just say Norm.

You should have heard me say "You" to my friend "Hugh"
I'm sorry if I've offended you with my confusion.

My take on all of your knives, btw, is despite your competant physical ability, you have the smaller knives as backup, out of your fear of being down and given the BOOT.

Warzone:
BAR, with a Thompson and a mess of stick mags (don't trust the drums) a close second.
CZ75B (My brain says 1911 inspired double stack, like Para P14, but I really, really like my CZ)
18" WWII (with a leatherman wave stuffed in a third pocket)

Survival/Wasteland:
Steyr Scout, scoped, in .308
Ruger MKII with a silenced barrel adaptor and a red dot sight
18" WWII (with a leatherman wave stuffed in a third pocket)

No sweat Munk, and no offense. Don't quite get your last line though. Some things an Ak just can't do well. I know, Heresy! :D

Oh, OK.
I was thinking along the lines of major weapon, moderate weapon, small weapon, still smaller weapon, and as the last resort, the tiny little blade no one knew you had!

I'm looking forward to Rusty's entry on this thread because he has backup for
backup systems should something go wrong.

I think writing for me is a way to organize in ways that are difficult for me. (that didn't make much sense) What I like about writing is you can fix things until you get it right. There's an anecdotal story about T Edison: he couldn't or wouldn't do some of the more difficult math equations neccesary for the progression or development of his work. "Why should I? If I need this done I'll hire a mathematician." paraphrased; something like that

thanks Norm!

Those Randall attacks are sweet! I have my eye on a beautiful one in stainless with stag handle and lanyard hole that I would love to get. Also a classic one with black micarta and border patrol handle. Unfortunately there is always something else in line...!

This thread made me dig out the Gelbu 21" and I have to say I'd consider taking that short-sword. I don't like to get too close to unpleasant people :D if I can help it.
As for a pistol...well, if I could figure that one out I could have saved a lot of money over the years. A Ruger MK II would be a decent choice though.
Long arm would probably be a Remington 870 with an 18" barrel and extended mag tube.
Unless Nasty brings the minigun  Then, I'll just cary spare ammo for him.

AR-15 Carbine 16" barrel and EOTech holo sight
Sig Sauer P220 45 caliber
or even better a pair of em
20 in Sirupati or a 16.5 in AK
and my Bob Lum fixed blade tanto

Warzone:
Custom SKS
Sig Sauer P229 .40/.357 Sig (carry extra barrel, both cals use same clip)
HI Malla

Survival:
Benelli M-1 Super Tactical 12 ga. auto. w/extra barrel
Hi Standard Trophy .22 Target pistol
HI VBGRS

Who is carrying this stuff?

If it is me, then skip the pistol, and much as I hate to say it, the large bore rifles, and shotguns too.

A sarge, 15 Bura AK, and .22 Springfield 84 clip-fed bolt gun. Hell, maybe just the 12 in villager AK, my legs are not as strong as they were. I've got two magazines, and the Springfield can be loaded single shot, as well.

I think the 12 guage is the best tool, but I couldn't carry enough ammunition to support it. I'd miss the old PAL sheath knife too, but...a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do, and munk said just three.

Unfortunately, there was no third option provided, the one with the African gun bearer.

Ok, so we got an old coot in the hills with a .22 and a 15" knife.

1) Cheat
2) Cheat
3) Cheat

Are you beginning to get the drift? In that situation there are no rules as long as you can get away with it.

Knife: 16.5" Bura WWII's . (3)
Handgun: CZ83's in 380 with 10 mags (3)
Rimfire: Nylons 66's ( two so far but I might snag the third next week ). (3)
Rifle: Norinco Hunter, Saiga, SKS, all in 7.62x39 (3)

and so on, and so on...

;) ;) ;)

Who is carrying this stuff?

I'm with Kis on this. Everytime I read answers to a question like this I am amazed at how heavy a load-out some people select!

..ok, pikcing abstract ideals, rather than what is in my safe...
If I have to survive in an end of society war-zone:
-A good, simple, lightweight, 20" AR15 (I'm happiest with somethig heavier, but I need available ammo)
-A CZ75/Baretta/hi-power type 9mm (although I'd rather have my .45, ammo is paramount!)
-16.5 WWII (although, lik Svashtar, this is certainly not my only blade--a good tool/weapon fixed blade knife and a multi-tool come along

In the long-term survival situation:
bolt action .22, preferably with a supressor (love the 12 guage, but ammo is heavy!)
4" .357 revolver (in my mind, the best balance between hunting/defense)
still my 16.5" WWII

first choice:
C-4
Claymores
M-60

But, alas, that was many moons ago....So I guess I would go with:

Nylon 66 .22LR (ammo is light and, as the Duck says, a double tap to the brain and the calibre doesn't matter) The Nylon 66 is indestructible. I've had one for a bazillion years and it just shoots.

16.5" Bura AK Chiruwa (with finger grooves)

Handgun: Colt Woodsman .22LR (no sense in packing two calibre's of ammo)

T.C. Contender w/223 and 22lr barrels

16" Chiruwa AK

Swiss Army Swiss Champ

Tom

ps With careful shots, 22lr feeds me. 223 procures other stuff as needed. :D
