Guys...once I get the button, we have the entire base and surrounding community at our disposal. That includes the Class Six store, the mess hall, the munitions area, the local brothel, and all the hot wings you could possibly want.

MAD = Mutually Assured Destruction for those too young to remember.

Even the aliens understand the concept...leave us alone or we *all* go bye-bye...

.

I think the "button" must be from Peyote. :D :p

I agree; trusting Nasty with a peyote button is one thing, giving him THE BUTTON is quite another.

I am and would be just a non-combatant who only needs a gun to get food and protect me and my loved ones.

.357/38 special: In an idealized world I think my .357 S&W 686 and a Leupold M8 - scoped Marlin .357 would do most good. But pistol ammo is less common in these parts.

.22 LR: In this world I think my Leupold - scoped stainless Ruger/Volquartsen/Hogue 10/22 should do all the work. .22 is lightweight and ubiquitous. I'd sub in 42 ounces of .22 ammo for the weight of the handgun if the rule of law were still part of survival. Khuk would be my YCS. Pocket knife would be Spyderco Wegner model.

Things are shaping up here, and that's good. We have lots of ammo and enough spare guns. (thanks to Rusty and myself and others) We've secured the water site and tested it- no radiation so far. Yep, that's right; the toilet is marked off by the red ribbon. Oh, and we need some volunteers for a burial detail. Yeah, the poor man was just trying to hunt some food for his family but you know how the hordes don't listen? They just mowed him down. Philthygeezer was his name. Let's use some of that good cedar for a marker; we'll burn the other stuff for heat...

Yvsa, nice call on the .357 lever/wheelgun combo. I keep starting to save for a Henry Big Boy .44 mag/ super blackhawk .44mag combo, and keep having to dump the fund into tires or groceries or some such nonsense.

I wondered about that Henry. Please tell us if you get the rifle and what you think of it.

:D

The thing about a Volquartsen - equipped Ruger with a Leupold 2-7x RF special and six or seven 30 shot clips is that a sustained rate of accurate fire can be maintained out to 150 yards or so. ;)

I think one dude with an automatic .308 and a .45 on the hip isn't going to fare much better against armed insurgents acting in groups. Maybe 50/50 you live. Far better to have 2000 cartridges on you than a heavy rifle, pistol and 50-100 rounds of each.

YMMV of course. :D

Phil, you not only can take some good natured teasing, but you are also welcome in my bunker anytime should the World End. Just drive South.

I'm certainly not an expert, but don't most survivalists recommend a reliable .22 caliber rifle, preferably in .22 long...? I would think that combined with an "Uzi reliable military long arm", and an 16-18" H.I. khuk, one would be well prepared... :footinmou :)

A .22 used correctly can do just about everything.
Except....and it's the rare 'excepts' you'd worry about.

Sounds like a plan. You take 'em out at 300+ and I'll stop anything closer. We might have to run if somebody gets a tank or an RPG though.

:D

Phil, I've got so many extra big bore revolvers we'll stick one of those in your belt too.

I think you need the .22 for food gathering and something with reach for security. Otherwise, it could be:

bang bang bang ... bang bang bang ... bang bang bang ... BANG !!!!

................. :(

munk...I was on the button when you were in Junior High School...*that* worked out okay! The trick is to not be on both buttons at once.

Regarding yardage...one of you get the guys within 100 yards, you over there...get the guys at 500.

I'll take care of everyone within 12 miles (35-40 on the downwind side)

.

Well, if I pass the test and make it into the bunker, I'm a pretty good man to cover the back door.

You guys can wipe out everything from 10 yards to 12 miles, and I'll help make sure no one sneaks up on you while you're doing it...

Plus, we'll need someone to entertain the women ...
:D

Women? I thought we were just taking the Swedish Bikini Ski Team with us...why do we need any more?
