Thrifty Thursday... Cheap Traditional Knives

Rough Rider half whittler was inexpensive to buy, and when it arrived, its cost was essentially cut in half since the unmatched covers gave me TWO knives for the price of ONE! ;)

Do you no yet if Gerber remembered to heat treat the blade?

They forgot that step on my last/final (I will never buy another.) Gerber that I had in 2002.
Slicing warm, soft butter (or/and packing tape) converted the edge to "almost as sharp as a spoon." 😡
Whoa! That's terrible 😒
I've used/carried this one a little, but not a lot. Opening packages is probably about the extent of the usage. It still has the factory edge. The only other Gerber I have is a fully serrated rescue knife, also made in the USA. I've never used it as I haven't had to rescue anybody or anything.

Cool photo, Dave! :thumbsup::cool::cool:
Will you please provide some details on that knife: maker, pattern/model, cover materials?
Thanks!
Gary, that’s a Rough Ryder swell center jack, “Damascus” blades with match strike nicks, cinnamon bone scales. Made in China and crazy inexpensive. SMKW has them on sale here for $30 😱

Thanks for the info, Dave. :thumbsup::cool:
At first I thought it was a RR cinnamon bone canoe, which I have, but then noticed the bolsters were wrong for a canoe and I didn't recognize the spade shield. Yours is a sweet-looking knife! I have the corresponding canoe version (with an acorn shield); it's my only knife with actual damascus blades (as opposed to some I have with blades etched to vaguely resemble damascus steel.
