Congrats on your new knife, Tom; it's The Ideal stockman!I stumbled upon this fascinating info about Imperial when looking for more info on the maker of my newest thrifty treasure:

I didn’t find anything new about The Ideal, though.
This one doesn’t have quite the alligator snap on closing as my red 2-blade model, but still decent. Came in unused condition - I had to put edges and points on the blades. The stains on the sheepsfoot are from me - the blades were so shiny I thought at first they might be stainless, so I tested it with some yellow mustard.
The position of the spey and sheepsfoot blades are reversed from most stockman knives I have seen. I actually like that, since I am more likely to use the sheepsfoot, and this makes it easier for me to access.
Good to hear from you Alan! I get really busy in summer and find it tough to find time on The Porch too. I always find that the folks are glad to hear from us whenever we canAge and circumstances have kept me away from BF for an extended period but I’ve learned to find and appreciate diamonds in the rough that fit right in this thread. Who knew that Frost produced beauties like this.View attachment 3070286
Bummer(I had to get a second red one because it came as a set with the yellow one, which I wanted)
That's a nice Frost, Alan; I really like the blade shape.Age and circumstances have kept me away from BF for an extended period but I’ve learned to find and appreciate diamonds in the rough that fit right in this thread. Who knew that Frost produced beauties like this.View attachment 3070286
Pretty cool, Kevin! These Thornton and Johnston knives come up on the auction site here and there; they are typically cheap and sharpen up really nice... Great users.

Totally agree, Alan! When I moved to Connecticut last year I had packed up the remnants of my collection but threw this Schrade SP3 in my pocket and it ended up being the cure for high end knives. Just like an inexpensive car will get you from point A to point B the Schrade is a great pocketknife.View attachment 3076854
Thanks for the "heads up".GT, I love the RR VG-10 knives, but I have a hard time with the painted parts on the aluminum scale knives. They end up looking ugly in short order.
