Thrifty Thursday... Cheap Traditional Knives

Here's the last of my 20% off bargains from Black Friday 2018. With the discount, it easily slides under my $10 limit for defining "Thrifty". It's the canoe from Rough Rider's carbon steel and yellow synthetic handle series:

2 3/4” “Fisherman’s Toothpick” - all SS, less than 1/4” thick. $2.99 (plus tax). Really disappears in the pocket.

Nice knife, but doesn't look like a toothpick to me. Looks like a Corsican vendetta pattern.

You're right, of course. I was just quoting what it said on the blade. (You'll notice I put "Fisherman's Toothpick" in quotation marks.) I knew it isn't a classic toothpick , but I didn't know what it really is until Jack Black educated me about the vendetta in the Totin thread. I know very little about European knives. That's one of the things I like about this Forum - I'm always learning something new. For what it's worth, I actually like the pattern better than the classic toothpick.

Me too! My next purchase I am saving up for is a vendetta.

Alan, nice pair of knives!:cool: What's your impression of that "swaybelly" handle on the Rough Ryder?

I can't quote a price because I've forgotten it  but not a lot when available  more than a Markka though....

Bubinga wood, carbon leaf blade and stainless liners/backspring, a very good combination.

I've long admired those knives, Will!:thumbsup: I have a similar one made by Cudeman.
I think the Aitor models are discontinued now? :(

Thanks Gary. First off they make for an excellent pair for just a bit over $20. The RR feels perfect in my hand. I tend to use trappers of this size (about 4") for food prep or in place of a dinner knife (occasionally). The 's' shape aids in slicing motions.

Thanks for the info, Alan. :):cool: I've learned that a swayback handle with a lambsfoot blade is an inspired combination, but I don't have any experience with such an "exaggerated" handle curve in the opposite direction. I've been intrigued by the "bow trappers" RR has advertised for quite a while. Good to hear that you're impressed with the design!
