Ti/Carbon Fiber S90v Military sale

With the full ti and fluted ti Millitaries discontinued, and selling slowly even at blowout prices, my guess is we will not see many ti iterations of the Millitary in the near future...

At this price it might be worthwhile to buy the KW version, and do a blade-swap later with your steel of choice...

I’m sure you’ll find a buyer for a Franken S90V Military on the exchange. It becomes a bit of a long term project and a hassle, but could be worthwhile if you are not in a hurry.

Good point...ya dirty rotten enabler! :D

It seems to me we won’t see anymore Ti versions of any spydies made in Golden. Could be the cost of production and machining of Ti is becoming prohibitive. It’s always been a lot cheaper done inTaiwan. Full Ti handled knives from other companies producing in Taiwan (nowhere near the beauty or machining of spyderco) can be found for about $100. G-10 and carbon fiber are both cheaper (in the US) and easier to work with.

Does anyone know the HRC on the kw militarys s90v and 204p respectively?
Here's Michael Christy run down of s90v on the para3 which should be heat treated similarly to the military. He didn't list an HRC. Though if you look at Ankerson cut tests they tested an older military at 60 HRC https://www.bladeforums.com/threads...ed-on-edge-retention-cutting-5-8-rope.793481/
Dunno if the recipe changed since then. But I would assume 59-61 Variance.?

Here's Michael Christy video on this particular knife though

Honestly if they can pull off what they did for this military that was made in USA, I wouldn't mind, based off of my spyderco slys bowie being really good quality.

I really hope Sal and Co take this military and shrink it to pm2 size. Not a pm2 but a mini military dare I say? My favorite part is the minimalist liners in the cf side and the quality of the ti and amazing detent and action.

Mo2, thanks for posting the videos. I hadn’t seen the sharpening video and it really answered a few questions that I had. Between my Wicked Edge and Dmt stones, I should be fine maintaining S90v.

I don't want to muck around with neither my EDC rotation CF/Ti-S90V nor the backup one which I bought when the price was dropped to < $200. However, if in a few months both the 204P and also the Fluted Ti CQI version should be available, I may contemplate on buying those two with a blade swap project in mind. IMHO, the fluted Ti scales are too nice for the S30V steel and also the 204P steel is a bit too nice for the green G10 scales. Dr. Frankenstein'ing those two would make two perfectly made monsters! Sayz me ;)

I just pulled the trigger on the 204p version. I'll figure something out using the lanyard hole. I'll make it left hand tip up somehow.

I honestly never thought about it before. And I'm a machinist! LOL!

Fellas, I've had this beautiful version of the military for a few weeks now, it is my only military in fact. I am very particular about my stuff and like for my possessions to stay in excellent condition, which brings me to this point. This military is so nice I almost don't want to use it, furthermore I am not very good at sharpening and I don't want to use it because I will never be able to get it back to its scary sharpness from the factory. Ugh....I know I know, first world problems.

There is actually a very easy solution here: buy another as a backup.:p

Use it and send it to a pro to sharpen.

Sounds like your next purchase should be a Spyderco Sharpmaker

The good news is that you will not need to sharpen it for a very long time, and if you get a backup you’ll never be without one! I’ll never get the edge as nice as when it came from KW, either, but the green dmt diafold comes close enough for me. I lightly pass it over a few times each side and hasn’t needed any professional help yet.
I’m wondering what other members use to keep their s90v blades sharp? Should I be using the red instead of green, since this is more close to the “grit” that experts like Ankerson recommended for really high vanadium steels?(at least this is what I understood) The green dmT or green stropping paste is what I’ve used to touch up everything from s30v to 204p, basically any folder I own.

Somebody posted the parts you need (and where to find them cheap)but I can’t find the post, maybe it was taken down? But maybe your solution will be even better once you find it! I’ve never had a problem carrying tip down, especially with longer blades. I hope you post what you came up with when you do!

Diamonds or cbn due to the high Vanadium content

No worries, you made a point...I'm not that picky usually but expected better with this model I guess.
KW is handling this for me...all should be good next week. Thanks for the input!

On a second thought, you might be right. Do you mind sharing what the response from KW was? If this is sth abnormal, I might need to return mine for a replacement as well.
