Tim Horan does not deliver as promised...
I originally placed the order with Tim Horan for 2 WiSKs in March 2011 and paid the requested deposit of $430.00 on June 17, 2011 because I asked for D2 that he does not normally use. The deposit was to be used to purchase the steel with the balance for the order due at time of heat treat. At this point I was told I would have the knives by that October and given a time frame of roughly 6 months, they did not come. After speaking with Mr. Horan I learned that something had happened with the D2, that he was sorry for the delay and he offered a free upgrade to 3V with the understanding that the knives would be to me by March of 2012. He contacted me in December 2011 to say that the knives were about ready for heat treat and asked for the balance payment. So as agreed I sent the balance of $1290.00 on January 12, 2012, still with the understanding the knives would be in my hands in March. I did not get them in March so I attempted to contact Mr. Horan many times with no response. Then in April 2012 I received an email stating that he was sending the knives to heat treat and I would have them by June. I asked why they weren’t sent in January like he told me they were but I got no real answer. The knives did not come in June so I contacted him again. From June to November Mr. Horan has promised I would have these knives by the end of every month but they have not come. In December he began promising them every week, he promised me delivery 4 times in December along but they never came. The last promise came the beginning of last week when he told me he would ship them “Express” last Wednesday and email me the tracking number. I never got an email from him and still no knives.
Tim Horan continues to owe me either 1: C model Wisk & 1: E model WiSK or a grand total of $1770.48 refund for payments made including PayPal feels made on the dates listed above.
I have ordered custom knives from many different makers and some of those orders have run long for one reason or another. Back in 1997 I ordered a BMLE from Jerry Busse that ran long due to Jerry having an accident in the shop but unlike Mr. Horan, Jerry called me upfront and explained the situation so I knew what to expect. With Mr. Horan I only found out about the D2 issue because the delivery date was missed and I contacted him. Another time he told me he had been sick for 2 weeks only after another delivery promise had been missed by more than a month.
Last November I ordered 10 knives from Dave Beck, 3 WSKs, 3 Scout Companions & 4 knives of my own design. The first week of January 2013 Dave contacted me to let me know they were ready to ship. I made payment via PayPal and I got the knives 4 days later. If you want a WSK, call Dave Beck.
Tim Horan has assured me for more than 8 months that my knives are complete and ready to ship. He has had my payment, in full for a year on January 12, 2013. If they are finished, why hasn’t he shipped them? If they weren’t ready last January, why did he tell me they were? I cannot believe that these knives have been complete & ready to ship for at least 6 months but he just hasn’t found the time to drive them to the Post Office.
I have seen other complaints about Tim Horan on this forum and that some of the people here like to berate & belittle them for standing up and trying to warn other of the bad business practices and out right theft that Tim Horan has committed. I have one thing to say to those, presumed friends of Tim Horan…I have given more than enough back story in the above statement to show legitimacy and I do have ALL emails, texts & phone messages to prove the above statements.
Anyone who knows Tim Horan or not, all I want are the knives I paid for or the money he now owes me. I do not wish to drag this out. I did not wish to make this post and I did inform Mr. Horan that I would be posting this letter on all the knife forums as of today if he didn’t, at least contact me to let me know the TRUTH about my knives. He did not, he sent mail, giving yet another excuse and promising yet another delivery date that he inevitably missed.
Any help anyone can offer in getting my knives or money would be greatly appreciated.
This may not be the correct forum for this post, if not please move it where it needs to go. I just thought that the folks in the survival forum should know about this guy supposedly making WSKs.
