Tim Horan Knives???

This is so wrong on so many levels. Very scumbag of him.
Ric, I could not agree more about Dave Beck. He is a good man.

Well. No knives and no tracking info. Mr. Horan told me many times he would have my knives to me by Feb. 28th, even gave me the impression he had shipped them and would be sending the tracking info “soon”. Neither has happened and he is back to ignoring my texts and mails. A friend of mine said, "this guy should take a job where he can pull a regular salary and not have to meet his own deadlines". I tend to agree. I will tell you this, I will never give money to anyone for goods or services without a verifiable tracking number or goods in hand again. I know not every maker is like Tim Horan, the contrast between him and Dave Beck is staggering but this guy has taken me for almost $1800.00 without a second thought. I told him up front that I would be posting here and on any other forum I could find to let people be aware of his business practices. I even sent him the link to this post when I first started it and he doesn't seem to care what the folks here think. Well, I will keep updating this post, and all the others until I get my knives or my money back. At this point I would really just like my money back, that way I could buy a couple more knives from Dave or some other quality maker that will actually deliver. He at one point said we could square up by my picking a couple knives out of his collection, I have told him several times in recent weeks I would be happy to do that just to get this over with but he does not respond any longer.
Again, a strong word of warning for anyone thinking of ordering a knife from Tim Horan or Horan Knives, see if another maker can do what you need done and if you feel you need or want to go with Horan please make sure you get your items in hand before you send any money. If you go to the Tim Horan forum or Who sucks & Who doesn't @ Usual Suspects or The Good, Bad & The Ugly here @ Blade Forums you will see many others who are or have had the same trouble I am having now. And if you want a survival / wilderness type knife or Tracker / WSK, call Dave Beck. He designed those knives and does them better than anyone else. I have dealt with many other makers of knives, Mocs, carbon fiber staves, tuxedos, guitars and a few others but I have never been treated with as much disrespect as Mr. Horan has shown.
Mr. Horan, if and when you read this post know that I would like my money back ASAP. I have been told that you make one hell of a knife and I really wanted to find out if that true but at this point I don't even care any longer. The hassle, stress and just general bull shit I have gone through sense starting this knife order with you is just too much and it’s not worth it to me any longer. I know you don't really care what the folks on these forums think, if you did you would not be pulling this kind of crap on the many folks having issue here or...at the very least you would man up and make it right for each and every one of us as soon as you could. But in reading the other many posts on this forum about your dealings (one guy waiting for 3 years with little or no word) I can see that is most likely not going to happen. Well, at the very least, if I never get my knives or money back, maybe other will read this and call another maker for their cutlery needs so there will be less people here in my position in the future.
I will continue to update this post as time goes on. If he ever sends my knives I will let everyone know that he did as well as what I think of the quality and workmanship. I will also post if I just get a refund, how long it took and the hassle I went through to get it.

Thanks for reading and please be careful when dealing with Horan Knives...
And thanks for all the replies showing support, it means a lot.

Ric

I will be contacting the BBB, Chamber of commerce and the 3 credit reporting agencies today about this issue. Hopefully at the very least I can keep others from going through this same BS.

Thanks,

Ric

He is probably punishing you for starting this thread. Just playing games with you at this point. I think Tim Horan should deliver your knives now. I wish you could take some time off and go to his house with a Detective and try to put this matter to bed.

Ric I really hope you get what you paid for. Tim I don't know you but come on man. Just pay the man or give him his knives. Try and restore your rep

Thanks Marko,
He may be punishing me, although this started long before I made my first post. I think he's just a lier and a thief.

Thanks again,

Ric

Last Tuesday's "100% promise" to ship and send tracking info was just another lie as I have recieved neither the knives nor the tracking info.

Please, no one do business with this guy. He will take your money and run...

Ric

I would take legal action. You know his address?

No, I don't have his address. Not on his site anymore. All I have is his phone, email & webpage. If anyone has his address I would be very greatful so my attorney will have someplace to send the docs and the BBB will have a place to send the complaints to.

Thanks,

Ric

At this point I'm thinking about having t-shirts made and warring them to Blade show in a couple months. Let as many people know about this guys as I can.

Ric

Doesn't look good, but hope it gets worked out soon.

In the future I wouldn't order from a maker that wanted money before it was ready to ship if I were you.

I've bought alot of customs, and have never had anyone ask me to pay before the knife was about to ship.
Good luck, and do what you need to do.

I‘m sorry about your problems but it saved me I had been thinking about getting one of his blades but now I would not pick one up at a yard sale if it was a tenth of the original price (I hate thieves & liers) heres an idea if you could take out a full page ad in his local newspaper and just print the Facts including your and his email exchanges. Hope you receive some compensation.

Never pay for a knife up front!

If a maker requests a deposit because he has to order some D2, take that as a hint and find another knife maker.

Good luck, I hope things work out for you!

T shirts and the ad are a good idea, is he a member here? Definitely let as many people know as possible and try and and get his address from someone that recieved something from him. What a scumy soon to be ex knife maker.

Hey Truth Seeker,
Glad I could save you the heart ache of dealing with this guy. I wish I hadn't delt with him, thats for sure now.

And thats the thing, I sent a dep for the D2 and everything went ok. I sent the balance of the order because they were suppose to be ready or close to ready to ship. Then nothing. What do you do when a maker tells you they are ready to go, you send money and he never actually ships?

Thanks again for all the support,

Ric

The part about what are you supposed to do when the maker tells you its ready and maybe even produces a picture is what we all should be concerned about. I too was robbed by a maker who said my knives were ready to ship. I am still bitter to this day. I think I found this website because I was searching the net about knifemakers stealing money from customers.

Now I make knives. I am very green but I have had a few custom orders. From people that I met on the internet. I can remember many seasoned knifemakers say never take the customers money until your ready to ship. I can see how a maker can put himself in a hole by doing this. But this guy Tim Horan is as bad as it gets. He stole a large sum of money from you. And he may even justify to himself that why the heck should I complete this guys order after he has trashed me on the forums... You know what. No matter how he feels about being trashed he still owes you and he should complete the order.

A few years ago I had the same thing happen with a different maker. I contacted the knifemakers guild he belonged too to get my money back and it worked. Find out if he belongs to a guild or association and contact them. Sorry for your troubles, it is a terrible feeling knowing or not knowing if you are getting ripped off.
