Time for a new gun

I’ve heard that many times and I agree with you I still don’t know what these problems are. Love 1911s!
Well I have an idea what a big problem is, I don't know if the HP addressed it but more recent autos have. Some of the most unreliable 1911s I've seen have been because of incorrect extractor tension. The design of the 1911 is sensitive to the extractor being adjusted just right. The extractor in a Glock for instance doesn't have this problem. People who build 1911s know this and know how to set up an extractor but any random 1911 that isn't professionally set up can have a problem. I hear people talk about some bullet types being unreliable, and some magazines being unreliable. In my experience if the extractor is set properly then the gun will run very well with random magazines and with any reasonable reload you can come up with. I have to add that this is my experience, I'm not a professional 1911 builder nor am I someone who has been able to sample a whole lot of them. Having said that I don't consider a good 1911 to be unreliable when used with non-SWC bullets.

I thought that quote was aimed at a Taurus. Maybe I didn't pay enough attention to the movie.

Hi-Power has a cult following, and I've read that it fixed the problems with the 1911 design, but I haven't found out what those problems are. I've handled a HP and it seemed a bit weird to me. I wondered if the HP was better, why didn't someone add the improvements of the HP to the 1911, or at least bring out a HP in .45ACP.
One obvious problem fixed is the fiddly-ness of the 1911's barrel link, replacing it with a sort of cam. It's a bit of a pain to get that lined up with the slide stop pin when reassembling. Why it didn't get back into the 1911, I suppose was because of military inertia. That being said, I love the feel of a 1911. I'd also like to get a Hi-Power just because.

While I've shot a few 1911's, I've never owned one. I've gone back and forth, but 7 or 8 rounds of .45 vs 17 of 9mm just didn't seem a great trade off. Now I know there are double stack 2011's out there, but I've never had that kind of cash.

After purchasing his first gun (a Steyr M9-A2 MF), my brother-in-law's uncle thought my sister needed her own gun, and sent her a Kimber Micro 9. Crimson trace laser, she loves it. But again, 7 rounds in a single action only gun isn't an ideal home defense gun in my opinion. But to each their own.

I got to work early today, and in that there were not VM on any of the phones, if the trend of quietness continues, I may take off early and go to the range, and rent a few guns. I'm past the point of carry and home defense, this is more of a fun, long range or competition type gun. I did finally get my red headed stepchild MKII Competition Target back together, and am gonna shoot that too. Just a pistol session today, gonna leave the Tavor SAR and the M1 carbine at home.

I still need to see a gunsmith about getting that mag tube extension installed on my Remington 887.

My G21 stock mags hold 13 .45acp's. Accuracy prevents the need to shoot till slidelock...lol

Sooo, I very nearly purchased a Sig P320 X-Five Legion today. However low blood sugar alarm on my cgm caused me to leave the store. I came back a little later, handled a few other guns, and liked the Canik SFX better. The store is currently attempting to locate the new Canik SFX Rival dark side for me. Very excited, but they are so new they are difficult to find.

I handled the Glock 34 gen 5 with optic cut and while it was comfortable in hand, I just hated, hated the trigger. For the price, plus optic, I didn't want to spend even more on a trigger job.

I once again handled a CZ shadow 2, and it was heavier than I like and it was too much moolah. I've rented one, and while I liked it, I was not in love.

I also handled a Beretta 92x rdo, but reviews say the optic mount is too high.

The ZEV glock was cool, better trigger, but too much money again.

If it wasn't for the $3k in upcoming dental work, I'd be willing to spend more.

In the future, I hope to add a quality 1911 and a Chiappa rhino. However, I have way too little space to store everything I already have. Storing 7 handguns, 4 rifles, and a shotgun in one bedroom is challenging.

Also, I swapped out the standard curved trigger on my p365 sas for the flat one today. I really like the flat trigger better.

Sweet! Fine choice!

The greatest thing I ever discovered for the Ruger Mk pistols is competition magazine tuning. There are lots of videos on YouTube with people explaining it. Perform these tuning steps on all your magazines and you will be surprised what your MK2 will gobble up.

I own 7 mk2 pistols. All problems were magazine related.

It seems to be the groove on the button on either side. The ones you push down to load the magazine.

The advice above is very good advice. The easy quick cheat is to push the buttons up and down rapidly 200 times or so. You will actually feel it get smoother. Its much easier with one of the plastic loading tools.

The Beretta 92 is a solid choice for sure. I recommend an Uplula loader for it.

What I'm waiting on, no ETA though I have signed the paperwork and put a down payment in:

There are a lot of good choices out there. Handguns and ammunition have become much better over the years. The best choice usually comes down to which ever one you are most familiar with. My first reaction to the 92F during the 80s was that I didn't like the grip or accuracy. The double stack magazine made for a roundish handle that just didn't seem to point naturally. It was nothing like the 1911. But, you grow use to it and the gun works fine. It is very reliable.

Price played part of the factor, but I just wasn't that impressed with the feel of the 92. I'm used to changing grip angles etc. However, for some reason I could not shoot my Steyr M9-A1 well at all. Left left left. The PX4 as usual was fantastic, and with the new trigger the P365 was surprising how much it improved my accuracy and trigger control.

Going from the P365 SAS bullseye sight to the 3 dot on the Beretta to the trapezoidal of the Steyr does take adjustment.

Edit. Getting carried away. Ordered a Wilson Combat 365XL grip module for my 365sas in coyote tan, with tungsten weight rods...

Should look cool, though I wish I could make the Lima I have match.

Gonna get new sights for the PX4 eventually.

1911 is grate gun both in 45 or 38 super auto, I have have had about 6 and custom built 3 1911's, and when match filed they out shoot most other pistols .

So I changed my mind, since it was gonna be 2 months apparently to get the Canik Rival. So, I ordered this:

I also bought a tungsten guide rod for my P365. My 365 is not going to be anything like when I bought it.

The 1986 Miami shootout taught me just two things: 1) a revolver is kinda hard to reload when you're kinda wounded, and 2) a 15-shot 9mm is great when shooting behind a car since you tend to run out of ammo real fast without ever hitting the other guy.

So I saw an AR that would match the new pistol while at the range...

Good thing I'm a lefty and not really an AR fan...

Maybe I should get my Tavor redone in white and black...

I like the way think!!! Steyr AUG comes in White very lefty friendly gun!
I had a chance to visit my local gun store and handle Beretta PX4 Compact Carry, very nice gun! The grip is a little slick, which is my main concern, but besides that excellent gun!!!

I definitely don't have the money to drop on another Tavor!

I've got so much else going on trying to get rid of as much of my dad's stuff as possible, so next year we can put the house on the market. Trying to get all the business stuff situated so we can sell the business in six months or so.

Wilson Combat still hasn't shipped my stuff, I'd hoped to have it for this weekend. My new mags for the Ruger Mark II Competition have shipped, the conversion basepads for my 10 round mags have also shipped. As well as the tungsten guide rod for the P365.

I have 3 holsters for the Sig, one for pocket, one for beltless carry, and a Crossbreed minituck. Well, I finally broke down and bought a belt. Its a gun belt that doubles as a dress belt. Get all ready for work, low and behold the minituck is missing. Can't find it anywhere. GAH. So I went with my Athena beltless carry again, which I do like.
