Time to Change Your Snark Plugs

GoRuck progress is shaping up quicker than I'd hoped. Did a 9 miler today in about 2 hours.

Damn! had a whole thing typed up for you Murph and hit submit to a database error.

GoRuck was fun. Welcoming party sucks but I think they want you to quit while you're still by your car.
By the end it was myself and two other guys carrying all of the team weights. I forgot how whiney people can get.
Best advice I can give is to train with additional awkward weight. A long piece of large pvc half filled with water as an example. Also an additional 30-40lb sand bag carried outside your pack. Ours ended up being about 13.5 hours and probably only two hours of that was just the pack.
After it was done I kind of wished I had done the 24 hour one. Still had a lot of juice left.

Yeah I remember you saying you'd signed up. I wasn't sure if it was already passed or not. We signed up for the heavy in Chicago May 22. It has since been dubbed an HCL event. Not sure if I'll do all 3 yet or not.

My buddy did the light in Chicago with his wife. He said it wasn't that bad and there were 5-6 guys doing the HCL as well. More power to ya if you go that route. That's a hell of a lot of training time for that long of a ruck.

So it turns out that my less than 2 month old droid turbo can't survive 3 hours in 16 feet of icy cold water.............

Uhh, that sucks royally. That's one of my biggest fears out on the ice, so I'm always triple checking to make sure my pocket is zippered...

Beautiful day out here for some hard water fishing:

Growler fill of choice: hot chocolate

My 12lb'er. Apparently my toque is made by one of the seven dwarfs lol:

Not to be outdone, my daughter pulls up a 13lb'er to once again kick my a$$ at fishing.

Yup, it sucked and so did the $150 insurance deductible. Poop happens though.

Nice northern! I'm gonna change things up tomorrow and try one of the smaller lakes in my area instead of the big one I usually fish.

it's coming together:

i even have particulate filters

also a box fan with a 20 inch furnace filter that gets sucked in front.

THAT pulled in a surprising amount of dust. going to buy several more of those combos... effective!

finally, i'm putting together an outfeed / assembly / etc table. if it works well, i'll make two, possibly on casters...

the table saw is fulled assembled, barring aligning the ripe fence, and slapping a blade in there... first wood soon... the table top was made with powered hand tools... still good stuff, as needed... (yeah, that's a 12 inch speed square ;>)

Awesome photos/family time. Ice fishing rocks. I used to do it every year when I lived up in Michigan.

Pike right? Pretty good eating but lots of bones! Unless you C&R...?

Thanks guys; 'twas a fun day for sure.

Yeah they're northern pike. This particular lake is catch and release; there was an oil spill 10 or so years ago, so they've shut down the lake until the spawners repopulate all the slot sizes. In the meantime, the pike in there have grown huuuge...

And yeah, the one Em caught looked like it swallowed a freakin, football :)

Cool, right? And cheap. And you can even clean the filter with your shop vac.
