Real turpentine doesn't smell bad at all. Garrett Wade has the tap and die sets up to inch and a half I believe. I used the one inch set from them to make this horizontal vise.

nice one!

Finished a piece for The Globe and Mail, Canada's national newspaper. Timelines were a bit tight as I was only asked to do this piece last week. Enjoying a glass (or two) of wine and watching Better Call Saul.

Congrats Gus! Sounds like a couple of glasses would be in order.

My hammock shipped today and my Tradewater is nearing completion. Good day in my neck of the woods.:D

I'll say! It's not nearly hammock weather here yet....27°F and blowing about 30 mph. Everything's frozen back up again.

Expecting my TOPS Machete .230 tomorrow (from the exchange). Hoping to get a chance to try it out before May . Also finished this up today:

Trailmaster for beachmaster. Got some pics to post in the mod thread.

Made some green eggs for my 10 year old this morning. She is still a true believer....the leprechaun trap was tripped, but didn't catch the leprechaun....she's trying to figure out how she can capture one next year, LOL. It's a little scary that she hasn't figured out these things....she's 10, and still believes in the tooth fairy, among other....mythical beings. It does not bode well for her teen years.

I did not use mayo OR peanut butter. But I did use bacon....

Awesome knife, GSOM!

That's better that my cousin, she believed in the mythical beings you speak of until a year ago, and she's almost 15. My parents had to explain about the tooth fairy when I was 6 and I lost my first tooth, and wanted my money but wanted to keep the tooth. :D

Thanks, Trade. I've written for them a few times, but it was kinda cool to have the editor reach out to me rather than having me pitch a story. Full disclosure, I've now had more than a few glasses of wine!

Great looking knife. And if I was closer, I'd be coming over for dinner!

What was the article about?

...watching Better Call Saul.

I started watching this the night it premiered after TWD. What a great show! And the best part for me is that I've never even seen an episode of Breaking Bad, so my wife (who's watched every show of BB) is trying to tell me all about Saul and what a badass Mike is. Now I might have some reason to watch BB - the back-story of characters is for me, the most fun...

What you NEED is to start using the tools you already have and build some stuff. And post some pics. Repeat.

I'm trying to get off the tool acquisition merry-go-round. I'm always thinking: "If I had this tool, I could do that thing...." when really, what I need to do is finish some projects and start some others with the shit that I already have. I almost bought another 2x42 at a pawnshop the other day....but decided what would be better would be to use the one I already have to grind some steel that I already have and see what happens. I already can't maintain/repair the tools I DO have. But the lure is strong, I'll admit. I lurve me some tools. I have enough.....that's what I keep telling myself. Too bad I don't always listen....

They wanted a piece about some outdoor gear that would motivate folks to get outside this spring. I really need to find a way to pitch them a story about Becker knives - lol!

Better Call Saul is at least as good as BB. Seriously, both series are incredible. And BB is definitely worth binge watching.

well, it's still cold as arse out, so a guy can do research. my tax refund is coming... okay, mostly i paid off my table saw ;) plus some for hand tools...

my outfeed table just needs legs now. table saw needs the fence adjusted. bamf. in theory, my rebate table saw wheel kit shows up, and then it's off to Rockler's for "the credit" on that (bought one, assembled, return the new one)... buy a handful of rail adapters, make a sled, cut cut cut shit :D

i'm burning through the Paul Sellers stuff video wise, and then the book. i've most of the tools i need, like the gouge for the spoon, and chisels. then we start making boxes, and a stool, and a table, and ... oh yeah.

pending restoration is (for me), outside work (messy)... but i'm getting there. a few minor things i don't have and bob's me uncle.

the rest is cake...

my BIG project i wanna do is the Paul Sellers bench and/or Moravian bench. believe you me, i'll be using the table saw and outfeed table to assist with nearly glue-up ready joints... planing as needed.

my side line projects are simply cutting things, precision like, for fixing moldings around the house (missing trim), and cutting fittings to restore this "hole in the floor" from an old stove, and ... hopefully doing things that nobody will notice were actually done... :D

in the mean time, gaze in wide wonder:

I'm going back through Breaking Bad... Again.... And my wife is watching it for the first time. It's a little agonizing trying not to spoil anything. I'm looking forward to "Better Call Saul" hitting Netflix.

I laughed way too hard at "breaking bag"

Sorry I been so absent guys! Been dealing with work stuff and finally got stuff coming in that has been on order for months.

As for the pasta discussion, for 1 lb of pasta I cook it in a 12 quart pot, with the strainer dropped in. I don't add anything besides salt, and a TON of water. Pull the noodles out using the strainer and then dump into a pan with the sauce warming up in it, and ladle in 1-3 ladles of pasta water (DO NOT DISCARD THAT WATER!!!!) Toss, plate, add cheese (and various other accouterments) and dig in!

There are some that swear adding a wooden spoon across the mouth of the pot prevents boil overs. Others will swear oil does, and others say starting with cold water not hot water... blah blah blah. The only real way is to keep an eye on it and use a BIG pot. Honestly you should anyway because you want that rolling boil to prevent the noodles from clumping/sticking.

Our direct next door neighbors were just fighting, i walked outside to see what was going on, soon as i opened the door one guy fired his gun... The slug went through my bedroom window, through a stuffed animal and into my knife case where the slug stopped. Glass is all over our bed. The 45 cal. slug is intact in my knife case now.. The police officer left it there and said not to move it as a detective is coming to take more pictures.

2 men arrested... We were shook up pretty good.

I have pictures ill share soon as well.

Philadelphia is bullshit.

Now, we need to set the record straight... never once did I ever say adding oil would prevent boil-overs. I just speculated that MAYBE the burner fire had been the result of a boil-over after oil had been added to the water to prevent clumping. There was then a small debate on whether the oil would indeed prevent/retard clumping while cooking and how to prevent clumping (stirring, boiling agitation) during cooking, after which I clarified that my oil adding was not for preventing clumping while cooking but rather that it helped prevent clumping AFTER cooking while it sat there waiting for people who wanted seconds. I don't remember anyone say that the oil would prevent a boil-over.
