I would disagree about the carrying advantage. I mean yes, it helps if you have a little bag for you to tote all your stuff in, but it seems like a lot of people, me included, value the 'speed of the draw', which is why everyone spends a lot of time talking about the various opening mechanisms for knives and carry options for their stuff. Would you really prefer not being able to carry stuff comfortably in your pockets, and stick in all into a (manly) purse?
alwilliam, I believe you misunderstood what I was trying to say in my post. My original point was some people in this thread, myself included, have stated a preference for traveling light, and find it rather incredible that others can carry around so much at one time. However, if the stuff you're carrying is needed on the job, then that puts "a lot" in completely different frame of reference. It's the same thing as you were saying with your Starbucks example, right?
