GOOD NEWS
I removed the scales and suddenly had a blade retention. Moved the blade out by 1 inch and it went back into the handle by itself. WOOOT! Super slow and weak retention but still happy that it works in principle at least and I wasn't totally noob. Something was wrong with the knife when there was no retention at all.
However I couldn't identify the reason for the initial failure. I have a feeling the axis lock could not travel high enough when the blade was closed. Maybe some margin too tight somewhere? I had a look at the springs and their cavity in the scales and there seems to be plenty of room. I couldn't find the problem but it seems to be solved now.
I would still like stronger springs and found some semi tutorials here in BF (THX!) I ordered me some different gauge electric guitar strings. Still I didn't want to wait until their arrival on Tuesday and combed the house for some strong springy metal wire, small enough to fit. Success! On of these for free key rings was thin enough and very springy. I bend me a new omega spring out of it and it seems to be twice as strong as the original. The original omega was 0.026 inches thick and the new one is 0.033. I will take some pictures before final reassembling.
Since its all open anyways I will also mod the blade tonight, if the kids sleep early. Will deepen the laser logos with DC then darken them with AC and strip the blade with paint remover. I like black blades for self defense but since I actually plan to use this knife I will strip the paint. Just don't like paint flakes in my food. I know its D2 and will have to be oiled but same would have to be done anyways on the edge or once the first scratches appear on the rest of the blade.
Pictures later.
Thank you for everybody's help and thoughts!
