Tired of youtubers failing to open tri-ads and lockbacks in frame

Do people seriously need an instructional video on how to open a knife?
(That's a real question)
I don't own a Cold Steel folder - never have, and likely never will - but what the heck are they doing to them that people supposedly can't figure how to open them?

Or is that issue imagined by the OP to justify making a video about it?

For some, yes. I used to like flippers because I can flip them open. Then I learned how to use the thumb stud to flick the knife open and it's much easier / efficient to me.

But I really see no difference in the opening method shown by the OP. The ONLY difference is which movement he emphasizes - the 'frisbee throwing' movement or the wrist turn. If he breaks it down further, he'll see he uses both movements and, most likely, the exaggerated emphasis of one over the other is unnecessary.

What's with the nerdy keyboard warrior attitude? It's obviously something a lot of guys struggles with. You're welcome.

Nailed it lol. Seems to be a common response from this guy.

Nice vid btw, I don't open my triad like this(since) I always tighten the pivot down, but it's cool to see some slomo.

Wow.. just went over the posts. Im surprised that a simple thread like this generates so much hate and gets toxic so fast.
Guess mod is off for the weekend..

Most common complaints about triad lock are how hard it opens or close, so a short video can be helpful to at least some people. Not sure what's the big deal about it.

Op, you probably wanna post it at the CS forums, you probably get much less hate and keyboard warrior attitude there. Some people just have turn on their troll mode when they hear the company's name.

So let's get this straight, SweGeek felt a need to post in a knife forum and instruct knife enthusiasts on the proper way to open a knife. Good Luck with that.

Lol no it's obviously a clever rouse to trigger the oppositional defiant disorder you've nurtured from years of being pushed around by mommy or getting stuffed into lockers or whatever...

Like I said I saw guys using the wrong technique and made a video. So what's your problem? I'm not telling you to do anything. I'm not punching your arm, I'm not telling you to finish your meal and I'm certainly not "preaching". Stop being such a millennial baby already.

I've had enough of this so if you want the last word then be my guest.

Be honest. That is not all you have done here. You made a video to correct people. Then you posted it here to correct people here which also drove clicks to your channel. You think your way is the right way. Then when you didn't get the reception you demanded you started getting upset, arguing, and called everyone names. You didn't want a discussion on the topic. You wanted to tell people how it is and have us agree with you. That doesn't go well here. Sorry.

As for my one cold steel, a Recon 1, I open it the way I do and don't care what others think and nor do I care to correct other people on how they open their knives insisting they replace how they do things with the way I do things. Also, if I don't like something on youtube, I don't watch anymore of it. Simple as can be.

I can thumb flick my Tri-Ad lock knives open with no wrist movement...is that even more correct? :D

I don't bother most of the time though; I just open the knife that has a thumb disk or thumb stud by using my thumb in a normal way.

I used to give a crap about being able to wrist flick any knife open I came across, and if they internet had existed back then, I probably would have a made a video about it.
And then argued with random people who didn't agree. ;)

Now, I just open my knives however, and don't care enough to make videos one way or the other.

Unbelievable, many of the regulars took the bait again. Barely the second page and it turned to personal bickering. Again, read more and post less. While the topic may be over-enthusiastic, it's a contribution about knives nonetheless. You guys managed to direct all the attention to yourselves again.

Wow, you done went and changed a "how to properly Youtube" thread into a "Proper way to behave on Bladeforums" thread.
Awesome! :D

If I understand correctly, OP's problem was not that they weren't doing "correctly", but that they were doing it out of frame.
OP wants to SEE THAT BLADE FLICK. Stop opening your blades off camera you rubes. Are you not even skilled enough to do it in frame?? Here, let me show you how it's done!

Is it though?

Looks more like whine about YouTubers than a discussion about knives. To be fair, the video in the first post did not play for me so I may have missed something. Either way, I appreciate it when those who initiate a topic actually start a discussion on it, rather than link to a video for me to watch to get their opinion.

Yes it's borderline. If it's a garbage post, but not against any rules let it die and move on. There is no preaching if there isn't anybody in the pews.

With about 20,000 active members and almost 3,000 people perusing this afternoon, there's bound to be a few in the pews to drop in on even the most absurd of sermons.

Yet here we are posting in this borderline thread instead of either reporting post we feel that are out of line or just simply moving along.

Exactly. It is a critique of youtube reviewers. Then when called on that fact, the defensiveness ensued which resulted in name calling from the OP and his defenders. The topic is not knives.

Sometimes I open one handed opening knives with 2 hands , my way of sticking it to the man I guess.

I used to chop down oak trees with folders too, but my buddy stab man corrected me now I don't even cut things just buy knives and immediately take the sharp edge off on concrete etc ,and just sit and watch TV and religiously flick them open and closed , so I can come to blade forums and cry after it developed play after the 20,000th cycle while on a Netflix binge .

Op your video isn't showing up but I'd get your technique copyrighted before it gets stolen and millions of dollars are made from the how to open your cold steel folder on frame instructional video comes out this fall .

All these Cold Steel haters are getting tiresome. Lynn Thompson, san mai copyright, meat bicycle, the Tri-Ad lock hurts my finger and I can't flick it open, waa-waa-waa! For the love of god, please come up with some new material.

Personally, I like getting twice the knife for half the money.

All these Cold Steel haters are getting tiresome.

To be fair, there was far less Cold Steel hate in this thread than folks not seeing the point of the thread. ;)

I don't see why anyone would be annoyed by the thread itself, but once this happened,

What's with the nerdy keyboard warrior attitude? It's obviously something a lot of guys struggles with.

and this,

I've been away a few years but I don't remember this place being a circle-jerk for angry nerds?

people will quite understandably get annoyed by being called angry nerds just for not caring about the thread.

I don't care about the thread or possibly being an angry nerd though. :)

You forgot burger and the GI tanto, virtual fixed blade lawsuit, and the twist master opinel saga.
