Titanium Axe... what say you?

Titanium Axe... what say you?'

Sorry, I misread your comment. No offense intended.
I had forgotten the original post. I love the concept. Heck one of them is on sale now. But I would prefer the one with a hammer instead of the spike. That way I don't spike myself somehow. Thank you for the reminder about the original post. Perhaps in the future I will revisit it again. I like the site. Thank you!

It's not about being "better" than a steel hatchet or replacing steel somehow like it's obsolete. It's just a bit of a different sort of tool to do the job, with a different twist when used, basically trading mass for speed. It's fun and effective.

I would like a titanium tomahawk or hatchet. Would be lightweight for carrying. Although softer might still have good ware resistance. Those that swing a hammer 100's of times a day probably prefer a titanium hammer. I much prefer my titanium bicycle to my steel one. Strong and light verses strong and heavy.
That's the funny thing -- they have lower wear resistance than steel by a significant margin--abrasion will do a number on them, so something like a sand grain in some bark or a cut will scratch the cheek, but so long as the material you hit is softer than the titanium is it does no meaningful damage. As long as you're a little careful about the cleanliness of your targets and/or have a good maintenance tool with you (a sharpening stone irons out damage FAST) then it's no big deal, and the edge holds up well under impacts due to the high yield strength, so the edges are surprisingly very stable compared to other non-ferrous metals or even compared to soft steel. Getting it crisp is surprisingly easy.

Mecha - I just watched your video with you using the the Ti axes. Before you try to convince anybody about the value of Ti for a axe you should work on your axe designs. You also need a LOT of work on your axe wood cutting skills.

I'm getting the impression that the videos posted here don't impress you. What, you don't run around in your backyard swinging an axe in the air like a fool? Or maybe you don't cut wood dressed in shorts, crocs, and no gloves?

Obviously a titanium axe isn't for you:rolleyes:.

Must've missed your episode of Knife or Death:rolleyes:. Mecha Mecha on the other hand kicked ass with a titanium sword.

Yeah, and I have actually seen grown men wearing goggles, hard hats and steel-toed shoes while working - let alone gloves! What a punch of pansies:rolleyes:
