To Ship Or Not To Ship OVERSEAS

i wonder if there worry is justified or are they just afraid of the unknown.

I've lost 650$ in goods to england's air mail service, and had to spend 2 months trying to wring out 200$ worth from a customer in canada. maybe there was some legal recourse available for u.s. to canadian mail fraud, but I have no idea what it is.

It's nice to rely on the high percentage of sales going through without a hitch, but when your living paycheck to paycheck that small percentage could mean rent doesn't get paid. I don't like dealing with international sales because I feel ultimately responsible for everything I ship, to a fault. So when something goes missing, I feel that it's my responsibility to track it down and trudge through the fetid swamps of international customs bureaucracy.

WOW :eek::eek:

I can't believe I just read this, you don't think you are part of the rest of the world.......

I don't want to turn this into a political thing but not as in one world/globalism. We've already got "leaders" in this country that are trying to push us towards that right now so It's really kind of a sore topic. Not to mention there have always been numerous problems with customs agencies from other countries such as stealing, charging exorborant taxes so people want you to lie on the declaration forms, Shit getting lost or mishandled, not on the "approved" list for that country etc......... I mean for crying out loud who wants the hassles when I could just sell to someone here and not have to worry about most of that. In actuality I think overseas people should have to pay some type of surcharge just for the pure hassle of it all. Oh and by the way I think Gundy had a problem with your countries cutoms a few years back and he's from Oz as well.

Plenty of those problems with US customs too.Sounds like the biggest hassle would be getting that head of yours through the door to go to the post office.

Not really, I've never had a problem with US customs. Thanks for the snide remark makes us want to deal with the overseas guys even more.

Everyone take a step back away from the computer for a while :)

As I said at the start, the percieved problems don't happen exclusively in overseas transactions. It's very silly to think otherwise.

They can happen anytime.

Luckily there are plenty of good guys prepared to get out of the house and go to the post office.

Actually they're real problems and mainly IMO with overseas customs, not necessarily your customs but others. I've personally shipped all over the place including southeast Asia without a problem but it is more work and more worry, mainly worry for me.

Agreed there ..... they aren't percieved problems and customs seems to make up the rules as they go.
After losing my butt on a Canada shipment....that was it for me. The USPS insurance still has not been paid to me. I'm out a knife and refunded the purchase price.
My area here has a large Indian and Asian precense. About everytime I'm at the post office, there is someone there who's package never made it. I listen to these issues while standing in the usual long line. They have tracking numbers but they don't update or they show delivered but it was not recieved. Mind you, these people are shipping to family in their home countries. It's a big problem.
Here's the kicker from one day. The USPS actually told the customer they won't be responsible for the item after it is handed off to the next carrier in a particular country. That's caught a few peoples attention in line. There are problems and they are valid concerns.
Deciding not to put yourself in that situation doesn't make you a bad guy. That's a little unfair.

I doubt we will agree on this subject, so.............

What's your favourite Busse?? :)

Being from Canada I greatly appreciate when sellars are willing to ship but understand when they will not. It is all up to what the seller feels comfortable with. There will never be anything that makes up for the comfort of not dealing with customs and not as many postal services. Again respect the seller and make sure show your appretiation for there willingness.

Appreciation for their willingness to not sell to you ?????:confused::confused:

I'd like to make a suggestion. Pack your stuff better for shipment.
If your shipping a expensive blade domestic or international, put it first in a USPS tyvek envelope and label it and write on the envelope that this is "inner pack-postage is paid - if your reading this this box has been compromised". Then put it in another box and do the same then finally in a last outer box with just the label and postage. Take a picture of the label and postage before you ship it.
There are free white boxes from the USPS and it seems that these boxes tend to be handled a little better than some old electonics box or plain brown corrugated box. I use a Priority Mail flat rate as the outer box (rectangular shaped) and use a regular Priority Mail rectangular box inside of that. It fits perfect. I then tape the entire outer box.
I can count on my fingers how many boxes showed up here with partially open flaps, crushed corners with holes in them. I even had a hand axe arrive with the handle sticking outside. The mailman was carrying it by the handle with a huge box stuck to the head. No packing material inside at all. Only air. Thats lazy!
Packing well can prevent things from going missing.

Surcharge or the added cost of shipping.

No.....surcharge, of course the shipping will be extra.

I'm not for that surcharge at all, actual cost only no matter where it goes.

Have to say, (before I decided no more INTL shipping) I think I shipped to one of you in Australia and it got there faster than some domestic shipments take and was faster than a Canada shipment. I was impressed by that.
