To use or not to use? A tricky question!

Oh My God,Your going to start out with an ESEE 6,you'll hurt it!!!Just funnin'.That's a darn good blade, enjoy it!

I agree with Stabman and Bob W
Just use them!
"The only excuse for keeping a pristine knife in the safe is if it's a back-up, or you plan on selling.
Or if it's an "art knife", I suppose, although I'd still use it."

"But if I need a knife for using I'll buy two, one to use and one to add to the stash."

I have been responsible for probably 100 Severtech sales. At least half the guys have 1 user and 1 keeper. You guys love spending money on knives , just get two of you favorites.

Use it, I bought this beauty less than 2 weeks ago.

I love the look of a worn blade.

I'll use my knifes but not when something else like a pair of sissors or a screwdriver will work better and is availble. I dont like to abuse my knifes you could say.

To each his own.
Sometimes I buy a duplicate of a production knife that I like. One to use and and one to save.
I think I get more enjoyment out of using a production knife than simply admiring it.
I do own custom knives that I would never use. I think using those would actually be less satisfying.

I have thought about buying some me the more custom knives like Chris Reeves to put up and pass on and a axis to use daily. or getting a custom Demco or Snoody for the safe and getting some of their production models by Benchmade or whoever to use.

There aren't any rules to knife collecting. You should buy what you like and do with it whatever feels right to you. You will enjoy any hobby more if you do it your way.

As Yab would say, I have some "pre-need replacements" of most of my user knives. :D

All my knives are users. If they don't look sexy dirty, worn, hand ground and stripped, you won't find em on my shelf. I draw the line when I buy the damn thing.

I don't see anything wrong with collecting knives and throwing them in a display case or safe, but I generally figure that out before I pull the trigger, especially for a knife in the $400+ range. So far, I haven't decided to keep any for collection purposes. The hardest part then is starting to use the knives that I bought for that reason. Get that part done as soon as possible and you won't have much of a problem using them afterward.

My most expensive knife is an SMF and it's my EDC 99% of the times because:

(1) it's very tough
(2) it's fully broken in by now and the opening hole doesn't hurt my thumb when I open and close it

So I'd say use the knife that's the most comfortable and suitable for you regardless of price (if you can afford it, of course).
