I wonder what is the no-load amperage draw for a 5HP motor ? I think that for a full amp draw, you need to _load_ the motor to where all 5HP are required. Now I can not image what one needs to grind to require 5HP :)
 
This thread reminds me of the old adage when someone says ," I had to get it.It as such a good deal."
If you can't use it or don't like it, $1 is too much to pay.

I ran 5hp motors on my compressor, Power hammer and press on a 30amp breaker. Only had one running at a time but it worked. This was single phase 220v. Now all my equip has a 50amp breaker. Still only run it one at a time but I'm the only one here so not a problem. 5hp 1ph motor draws 25amps 28 on hard start.
