I am asking this Question as I see on the other post where WRO is giving Tom and Jerry a hard time for cutting up on the forums,he has stated:--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I vote for Tom and Jerry to keep their fun private. It is neither helpful or informative and does allow for misinterpretation by outsiders. I have always found that private meanings are offensive to others.Use private email and leave the forum for important exchanges. So what does everybody think, should they keep the act......I for one say "YES"

For some reason, it seemed like a joke from the beginning (or my beginning) to me. What fun would it be by email; it defeats the purpose. Some people take themselves way too seriously.

Brett

You are not alone in your opinions. I have tried to bring that to the attention of others before. Just be careful what YOU post about those darlings of the forums. You can be banned from posting for ANY reason, whatsoever. Believe me, I know.

The problem with the excessive posting is that it clutters up the forums, and slows the site down at times. Suggesting that these posts be taken to the community forum, or the girlie chit-chat forum is punishable by stoning, I came to find out. These two get away with it because:
1. They will eventually stoop to answer questions from newbies, if asked, and
2. They are widely considered to be "great guys" and criticism of them is considered tatamount to "thought-crime", around here.

You have got to be kidding

Lighten up!! No one said that everything here had to be serious.

Like Rob said, if you don't want to read about something, don't open the thread.

I think it is a lot of fun goofing on each other. And after reading a few posts into a particular thread, if you can't tell it's a goof, then something is wrong with your sense of humor.

I for one enjoy it. I have picked on Tom's legs, but yet have not seen a picture of Jerry in shorts so I can't pick on him. Tom, do you have one???? Is so could you post it.
Thanks to to both of the gents for the open advise that they share on the forums.

You'd have to be nuts to think Tom & Jerry were serious! Keep up the antics guys, I like to laugh and I certaintly don't want to take myself or this forum too seriously!-Guy Thomas

(BTW-these two guys have been some of the most helpful people on the forum, either one has a helpful answer to almost any post!)

The only thing that we are "serious" about, is that it doesn't belong in the Shop Talk- Blade Smith Questions and Answers Forum. Is there not a "community" forum established for this sort of thing? As for your suggestions not to look at these posts if we don't want to read this stuff, THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT WE ARE DOING BY AVOIDING THE COMMUNiTY FORUM AND HANGING OUT IN THE SHOP TALK FORUM!!!!!!

I don't see what the big deal is. You have to have fun once in a while, or you'll go crazy. Especially with something like knifemaking where things can get frustrating fast. Let them have their fun here, they can't help it if they spend so much time in the shop and on the computer that they don't have any friends

I think everybody should be having a good time here, and should be a little more willing to laugh at themselves and each other.

It'll feel better when it stops hurting.

I don't see any problem with them posting it here, after all, only other knifemakers would get some of their jokes.
As for anyone being offended...
(ahem)
The Constitution protects us from a great many heinous things.
Being offended is not one of them.
So anyone that's offended can go and *#&$#?&&$*@*$&%#@& and ?@$@%^&$&@$&^#*$%& until the handle breaks off and they have to get a doctor to take it out!

I think Both of these Guys are Great people and have always helped me out when asked.I for one dont see any harm in these fun and games on here as some nights or days I dont get much farther than shop talk and it brightens up a sometimes dreary night.I sometimes wish I had someone that I knew well enough to give and take a hard time from.....So KEEP it up Tom and Jerry!!!!!!!

Although I haven't been around this forum very long I've enjoyed the bantering between those two, especially after I've just screwed something up and come looking for advice.A good Laugh does wonders.

I like it...because I'm not in the middle. I actually look forward to reading their verbal abuse as much as I do the shop stuff. You got to admit that the clutter is minimal among all the other posts.

wow! did I hit a projective nerve or not? it was what I expected to happen.. the good ole boys closed ranks and sur'enough they all love each other and the chatter that is exchanged.. (hope the club does not ban me for being honest) Tom and Jerry kind of remind me of the Furniture Boys.. they love eachother and their jokes are most often really personal and fall flat for most.. just thought I would suggest that the shop talk should be that.. how about a "mindless exchange" forum that serious readers could avoid altoghether...

I expect another salvo of love oneanother... go to it.. and to the guy with the coded message to me... that is not coded to the right reader...

I was actually misquoting a disclaimer that I have in place on my own site, and "Waynes World". I don't think you're in any danger of being banned, Wro, but you did phrase your original posting on this subject as "I vote that" and you've now seen some other votes on it. I think many of them were well worded, although I was trying for a bit of humor, I'm sorry if it sounded negative. No coding, and no hidden meanings.
I do think it would do you some good to lighten up. I think T&J have done a good job of making it clear when it's a joke, even before we read the post.

They probably find our repetitive questions
rolleyes.gif
to be a clutter to be eliminated but they still take the time to reply, even if its the 20th time they've answered the same question. So to Tom and Jerry I say keep it up and thanks for the valuable advise and amusing antics.

I vote that the Tom and Jerry Show be picked up for many more seasons!!! Knife makers unanimously seem to be of great character and light hearted and guess what: that comes out in posts on knife making too! Perhaps we should get rid of smilies, as that slows down bladeforums too... or perhaps no posting pictures, or a word limit...

I don't think any of this is about good ol' boys or anybody having to stoop to help another.

I can think back to many high school and college classes where the teachers were monotone, and very to the point. No room for fun. And after all, that's what you're there for right? To learn, well yeah, BUT, how many of you enjoyed classes like that?

I hate them.

I love classes where the teacher is about keeping the information as fun and light as they can and yet still help and teach.

That is exactly what's going on here.

Sure sometimes they post stuff that isn't even remotely about knives, but this is a SHOP-TALK FORUM.

To me that means anything that would be talked about in any of our shops. And I for one do not just talk about knives in a monotone voice with no room for jokes when I'm in my shop.

I really don't see why someone can't just skip a thread if they don't like the looks of the subject.

Keep on driving...

Nick
